XinYingpan Mosque in Yangbi County, Dali

The history of Xinyingpan Mosque (新营盘清真寺) dates back to the Qing Dynasty. An inscription on a beam in the original main hall reads “Built in the 9th year of Xianfeng of the Great Qing” (1859), indicating that the mosque has a history of more than 160 years.

Reconstruction and Restoration

On April 21, 1989, a fire caused by residential electricity misuse destroyed the main hall and most of the mosque’s buildings, with only 16 carved lattice doors salvaged.

In 1991, the local Hui (回族) community raised 270,000 yuan to rebuild the mosque. The project was completed in December 1992. The new main hall was constructed in a brick-and-wood structure that incorporated traditional architectural styles.

Historical Events

After the failure of the Du Wenxiu (杜文秀) uprising, the Qing government listed mosques on both sides of the Yangbi River (漾濞江) as “rebellious property.” It was not until the Guangxu reign period that reconstruction was allowed.
