Yihe Wangshu Teahouse is located on Beimen Street, one of the oldest streets in downtown Kunming, near Green Lake Park. This historic street is known for its vibrant mix of pubs, restaurants, and shops, offering a lively atmosphere for both locals and visitors.
The teahouse, named after ancient mythological figures—Yihe (义和), the goddess of the sun, and Wangshu (望舒), the goddess of the moon—provides a unique blend of traditional and modern experiences. By day, it serves a diverse selection of teas and traditional Chinese refreshments. At night, it transforms into a bar offering a variety of alcoholic beverages made from glutinous rice wine, with options to add fruity and floral flavors.
The owner, passionate about Chinese Han culture, established this teahouse as a platform to share Han culture and connect with like-minded individuals. The teahouse has become a space where her cultural aspirations flourish.
In addition to its beverage offerings, Yihe Wangshu Teahouse also hosts courses on traditional Chinese instruments such as the Guqin and Pipa. Guests can enjoy live performances of these instruments, adding a musical dimension to their visit.
Its name came from the owner’s four-year-old daughter, Duoduo. The little girl loves her father’s home cooking and her father enjoys cooking for his family. Having this idea in mind, he decided to open his own restaurant and to provide healthy and safe food for not just his own family but to a wider range of foodies out there.
Beef and milk are all provided by a ranch, which is owned by Duoduo’s father in Songming County. And some vegetables are even grown in the restaurant. They provide such a special environment for eaters with organic and fresh ingredients.
Probably one of the most creative dishes at Duoba’s Kitchen is the hot pot with fresh milk, vegetables and beef. The secret of the soup lies on the fresh milk. When it simmers, simply put slices of beef into the soup and wait for several seconds until the beef become brown and firmer. And then dip the beef into the sauce, which was made from chopped chili and drops of vinegar. The combination of milky texture and sour taste and a hint of spicy make this hot pot a sought after dish, even during hot summer days.
The owner uses colostrum from his ranch to make cheese cakes. Fried cheese cakes is golden on the outside but soft and chewy inside. Besides, the aroma allures eaters from a far distance. Sprinkle some salt and pepper on top or some white sugar, the taste is as delicious as it is.
