Geographic Location

Gaocang Subdistrict (高仓街道) is located in the urban-rural fringe area of south-central Hongta District (红塔区), Yuxi City (玉溪市), Yunnan Province. It borders Jiangchuan District (江川区) and Tonghai County (通海县) to the east, Yanhe Subdistrict (研和街道) to the south, Dayingjie Subdistrict (大营街街道) to the west, and Fenghuang Subdistrict (凤凰街道) to the north. It is about 4 kilometers from the Hongta District Government and 90 kilometers from the provincial capital, Kunming (昆明). The total area is 63.4 square kilometers.

History and Culture

Gaocang Subdistrict (高仓街道) has a long and rich history. During the Ming Dynasty, military granaries were established here, and due to the predominance of the Gao (高) family name, the area became known as Gaocang. It was also a sacred site where ancient Yi (彝族) ancestors worshipped deities of heaven and earth. Historical relics such as ancient buildings, stone steles, and cliff inscriptions on the mountains bear witness to the area's historical legacy.
