Zhaotong (昭通) is located in the northeastern part of Yunnan Province, China, at the junction of Yunnan, Guizhou, and Sichuan provinces. It serves as a vital gateway connecting Yunnan with Sichuan and Chongqing. Known for its picturesque mountains and rivers, Zhaotong enjoys a mild climate with four distinct seasons and abundant natural resources. It is one of China's key apple-producing regions, with Zhaotong apples famous for their sweet and crisp flavor. The city is also a significant birthplace of China’s revolutionary (red) culture, with numerous historical sites related to its revolutionary past. Major attractions include the Dashanbao Black-necked Crane National Nature Reserve (大山包黑颈鹤国家级自然保护区), Huanglian River Scenic Area (黄连河风景区), and Dousha Pass Ancient Town (豆沙关古镇).
