Altitude Sickness
The altitude is about 2,400 meters or about 7,800 feet. Some people may get some altitude sickness. So take it easy the first day or two.
What to Pack
Travel light when strolling in the old town. Bring a camera with you that you can take photos along the way. Sunlight is very strong in Lijiang, wear sun protection such as hats, sunglasses and use sun block, etc.
Entertainment
Do not miss the bars in Lijang. They are a part of life. The bars in Shuhe Old Town is more quieter than Lijiang old town.
Dining
In Shuhe Old Town, some small restaurants are also surprising. The famous local dishes includes Chickpeas Bean Jelly, Lijiang Salted Pork Ribs, Naxi barbecue and other Lijiang delicacies.
Hotels
Just like Lijiang Old Town, Shuhe Old Town has many high-qualify hotels or hostels for you to choose from. The recommended hotels are Banyan Tree Lijiang, Lijiang Conifer Lishui Yangguang Hotel, etc.
Other Tips
1. If you plan to travel to Lijiang during the peak tourist season (Spring Festival, May Day, Summer holiday, and National Day holiday), be sure to reserve a room in advance.
2. There used to have carriages getting in and out of this town, so be careful.
3. It is best to wear cloth shoes or sneakers when walking in the old town, because they are all slabstone path, it is easy to twist your feet with high heels.
4.Take rain gear when you visit in the rainy season, and the slabstone path are slippery after the rain. Pay attention to that.
Menglian Dai, Lahu, Wa Nationality Autonomous Prefecture locates in the southwestern part of Yunnan. The county goverment seats in Nayun Town. Patina scenery and the water carnival shows different scene of this place. Nayun Town as the mecca of Tusi cultural, and the Theravada Buddhist Temple are bound to the believers at home and abroad, Nanlei River is the wonderland gentle like water.
Located in Nayun Ancient Town, the whole ancient buildings remained what they used to be, with the Dai and Han architectural features mixed. This former site stands for the hereditary Tusi rule system of Dai from Ming an Qing till now over 500 years. Former Site of Menglian Xuanfu Dapartment is now listed as National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit. The ticket fare is 10 yuan.
Located 1 km west to Menglian, Nayun is the last Dai ancient town in China. Nayun still obtain Dai houses and other buildings best preserved in China, Such as Former Site of Menglian Xuanfu Dapartment and Shangyun Dai Village. In the ancient town locate places of historic figures and cultural heritage such as Shangcheng Buddhist Temple and Zhongcheng Buddhist Temple. Ticket-free.
Located beside the beautiful charming Nanlei River, constructured by a main tower surrounded by other 8 smaller towers. The Grand Golden Tower faces the Former Site of Menglian Xuanfu Dapartment, as the symbol of the union of all ethnic groups in Menglian. The Grand Golden Tower was built in 1997, together with Menglian Xuanfu Dapartment, forms a splendorous contrast. The ticket fare is 5 yuan.
“Mengwai” in Dai language means a plain of convenience. The village is 15 km northwest to Nayun Ancient Town, built among mountains and rivers, with beautiful scene and simple folk. The village was once the Mountain Resort of Tusi in Menglian. Ticket-free.
April 8~10, Lahu People in Lancang celebrate by dancing and exchanging glutinous rice cakes, to express the wish for a bright future of this nationality come out from a gourd.
At the beginning of the 8th Lunar month, villagers from Dongwen and other villages bring newly-harvested crops and other special food to celebrate their grand harvest. Due to the harvest time varies every year, the festival could fall on a random day in early Augest.
On the 4th day in the 4th lunar month, which usually falls in mid April, Dai People celebrate the Water-splashing Festival, it’s a grand carnival in Dai regions. People splash clean water to anyone whether they know each other or not, it’s considered a way to bless others and to wash away all the misfortune.
During the festival, thousands of Menglian people will go catch fish in Nanlei river. Unique skills in catching fish obtained by local ethnic groups as Dai, Lahu, and Wa, which are rarely seen in urban life, will become a bright spot in Menglian.
Menglian Eco Museum of Wa Nationality: located in Damanru Wa Settlement, The museum displays the precious cultural heritage of ethnic minorities in a [FS:Page]original ecology way.
A famous Dai flavor dishes which mix beef and ox liver with various spices. The dishes taste spicy and delicious.
Fresh Tilapia cooked with various spices, maintained the delicious flavor of fish and Dai spices. 
To cook beef feet tendon with other spices. The dishes taste soft and tender in bright colors.
Main ethnic groups in Menglian include Dai, Hani, Wa, Lahu. Each group obtains different costumes, and wear different ornaments, which are rare souvenirs.
Known as Gourd Garlic, one of Menglian’s specialties. Obtains a natural fragrance flavor and unique health care function, can be eaten alone, can also be used as ingredients. 
Menglian County is one of the main origins of Pu’er Tea, it has a long history of planting, producing, and drinking tea.
Menglian obtains over 1000 kinds of Chinese medicinal herbs, such as Amomum, hematoxylin, pangolin, bear bile, monkey bone, antler, bezoar, and Dracaena.
Better to travel in winter. Scenery season of Daheishan scenic spot lasts from October to February the next year. 
Known as the Jade Wall of Wuliang, locates in mountains in Jingfu, over 60km away from downtown. Behind the waterfall lays a black rock, the name of the Jade Wall is given because after being washed by water in centuries it looks like a mirrow. Ticket-free.
A Confucian Temple, locates near the intersection of Hongqiao road and Yuping Road, first built in Ming Dynasty, covers an area of about 5300 square meters, the courtyard is axial-symmetry. No tickets.
Locates in Jingdong No.1 Middle School, is a provincial key cultural relics protection units, one of the 4 Ming Dynasty city ruins remaining in Yunnan Province. It has a history dating back more than 600 years. At present, south gate and south walls intact remain. Ticket-free.
Locates in Huangcaoling Village, at the edge of Wuliang Mountain National Nature Reserve, 30km away from downtown with quiet natural sights, houses of stone, and economic fruit trees. Ticket-free.
Locates in Wenjing at the southeast to Jingdong, 24km away from downtown, covers an area of about 400 square meters, soil columns here are shaped by the force of water and wind. Ticket-free. 
Tastes sour. A natural medicine, appetizer. Seen in many restaurants.
A traditional dish of Yi Nationality in Jingdong. Yi families prepare the meal on the 14th day in the 6th lunar month.

Beautiful, practical, environmental-protecting bamboo boults and sifters of various sizes. 
The pipe presents the natural color of bamboo except the iron hide bar for welding and smoking. It’s too delicate to be a smoking pipe.
Main economic crop in Jingdong, produced in Wuliangshan and Ailaoshan Mountains, the fruit has high nutritional value.
Zhengdong means discovering a plain in Dai language. It’s one of the twelve plains in Xishuangbanna. Recommended attractions include Yiwanshui of Zhongdong, Dahebian Dai Village, Dahebian waterfall, springs, three villages of folk custom in Manhejing, Guhe tower of wells, Mantan Dai houses, and the forest of one single banyan. 
Mengkang port between China and Laos(the Pillar No.7): It locates in Kangping of Jiangcheng, Puer. It connects Laos and China as the second port between the two countries. Recommended attractions include Mengkang Springs, Mengkang Shiziya Scenic Spot(with the highest altitude of 2207m in Jiangcheng).
Lixian River is named after the village it runs by, it’s been a international trade channel. Recommended attractions include Tuka fishing village, Tuka River drift, tropic rain forest in Lixian, Tuka Dam touring, Gelantan Dam touring.
The mountain of ten stores locates in Nuna of Qushui, Jiangcheng. It’s a peak in the joint of China, Vietnam and Laos with the altitude of 1864m, on top of the peak there is a pillar made of granite.
Zhalete as the beginning of the lunar new year : The most important Hani festival is the “New Year in the Tenth Month”, it lasts for six days. According to their ancient calendar, the first dragon’s day in the tenth month marks the first day of a new year (equivalent to the New Year’s day of Han Nationality). On the New Year’s day, each village slaughters a pig. Regardless what size the pig is, it would be given out averagely by households, even if there are only a few heart, liver, lungs, intestines, stomach of the pig, they also had to be given to every household. In the afternoon, families offer pork and visceral to their ancestors.
During the carnival, there will be various events of sachet-throwing, bonfires, international buffalo body painting show, Tuan Long Ancient Feast over three countries, international commodity fair, and sports competition with national characteristics. All events are brilliant and full of unprecedented prosperity. 
To mix ox loin and surrounding muscle baked in flame with cooked tripe miscellaneous, then to dress the prepared dish with ginger, garlic, spicy, peanut, and most important, the filtered boiled ox sausage water or bovine bile, thus the famous dish of carnivorous salad made by beef is done.
Acid-ant eggs and white larvae, after being boiled in boiling water, dressed with salt, pepper, coriander, leek, sesame in cold way, that would make a delicious dish.
Jiangcheng obsesses plentiful aquatic products, such as Miangua fish, Long-beard fish, Snake fish, catfish, herring, Stick fish, Red-wing, pale cobitis, Horsehead fish, Bald-mouth fish, Short-nose fish, Leopard fish, Red-tail fish, soft-shelled turtle, shrimp, crab, snails. Those products obtain unique names and flavors. 
Jiangcheng is Yunnan’s specialty area of wild rattan, rattan production has a long history and many kinds. 
Jiangcheng taste good due to it’s made of qualified cow raiesd in natural environment.
Sanya (trivalve) fruit is a specific fruit product from Jiangcheng. The name of Sanya (trivalve) is given for each fruit’s flesh is born in three lobes with no exception. The flesh looks pink, wrapped in a layer of translucent thin cover, the flesh under the thin cover obtains soft waxy tasty, with a little sour and refreshing.
