Dongting Mosque in Changning County, Baoshan

Dongting Mosque (动廷清真寺) was originally built in 1946. It covers an area of 5.6 mu. The main prayer hall adopts the traditional “five to seven” architectural style and is constructed with earth and timber. The hall has a total building area of 353 square meters, and the entire mosque complex covers 721 square meters. The mosque serves 153 Hui households, totaling 744 people, all of whom are Hui (回族).

Brief History of the Mosque

This mosque community has had 14 imams (阿訇) and 11 council heads (学董). It houses 6 copies of the Quran (《古兰经》). Existing plaques in the mosque include inscriptions such as: “Allah is One,” “Purity and Infinity of Islam,” “Lord of All Things,” and “Only Truth and Unity.”

Couplets inscribed in the mosque include:
“Islam came from the West, and through Tang, Song, Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties, the teachings endure forever.”
“Blessings flow from the origin, remembering prayer, fasting, alms, pilgrimage, and moral rules throughout generations.”

Another couplet reads:
“Reflect on the past, protect the present, and guard against the future—daily matters are rooted in body and soul.”
“Remember loyalty and filial piety, diligently practice throughout life, and fear the consequences thereafter—heaven’s path lies in loyalty and filial duty.”

This mosque has been designated as a Key Cultural Heritage Protection Unit of Changning County (昌宁县).
