There are two theories regarding the origin of the name "Tachen." One theory suggests that "Tachen" comes from "Ta," meaning edge, and "Chen," a phonetic variation of "Chi" (meaning water), referring to the Lapu River beside the village. The other theory suggests that the name derives from the terrain and landscape, indicating a place at the foot of a tower-shaped mountain resembling a bottle opening.

The village preserves a rich cultural heritage, including traditional Tibetan clothing and Naxi Reba dance.
