    July marks the rainy season in Tengchong (腾冲), with cloudy and rainy days being the norm. The weather remains pleasantly cool, with average high temperatures around 23°C and lows around 17°C.     Unique Local Festivals in July

    There are no major festivals in Tengchong (腾冲) in July, but visitors can immerse themselves in rich local folk traditions.     Recommended Attractions in July

    Rehai Scenic Area (热海景区): In July, geothermal activity is at its peak. The “Big Boiling Pot” sends up clouds of steam, and eggs buried in the hot sand cook in just 10 minutes, with pudding-soft whites. The blend of steam and rain creates an otherworldly landscape, reminiscent of scenes from a fantasy drama.

    Heshun Ancient Town (和顺古镇): During the rainy season, the town transforms into a living ink painting. Rain-soaked stone paths shimmer, green vines climb over white walls and black-tile roofs, and lotus flowers bloom in hidden courtyards. Spend a peaceful evening by the riverside in a café, listening to the rain patter on lotus leaves.

    Beihai Wetland (北海湿地): In July, the floating grass rafts are lush enough to walk or sail on, turning the wetlands into a green carpet dotted with blooming purple irises. Visitors can pole through the flower fields on grass-raft boats and pluck wildflowers by hand.

    Guoshang Martyrs Cemetery (国殇墓园): The rainy season lends a solemn air to this historical site. Raindrops tapping on the cypress trees, combined with the guide’s stories of the Western Yunnan WWII battles, create a moving and powerful atmosphere.

    Seasonal Delicacies in July

    Rice Pea Jelly with Fried Dough (稀豆粉配油条): A popular Heshun breakfast dish featuring thick golden pea jelly topped with sesame, cilantro, and chili powder. Tear fried dough sticks into pieces and dip them in—so delicious, you’ll want to lick the bowl.

    Wild Mushroom Hotpot (菌子火锅): July brings an abundance of fresh wild mushrooms. At Linyun Night Market (林云夜市), vendors offer just-picked mushrooms like Termitomyces (鸡枞), Boletus (牛肝菌), and Green Caps (青头菌). Once cleaned and boiled, the broth becomes richly flavorful.

    Da Jiu Jia (大救驾): The ultimate stir-fried rice cake dish. July’s “erkuai” (饵块) is made from freshly harvested rice, giving it a springy texture. It’s stir-fried with eggs, ham, tomatoes, and chives in a savory sauce—absolutely satisfying.

    Pickled Pears (泡梨): The perfect rainy-season palate cleanser. These sour pears are soaked in sweet and sour brine, balancing tartness with sweetness. A single bite will make your eyes squint—followed by a lingering hint of sweetness.
