    Yanguo (岩果) from Yue Song Village Group 4 (岳宋村四组), Yuesong Township (岳宋乡), Ximeng Wa Autonomous County (西盟佤族自治县), Pu’er City (普洱市), Yunnan Province, is a highly respected Provincial Representative Inheritor of Intangible Cultural Heritage. He is renowned for his expertise in traditional Wa ironwork (佤族铁器制作, called “Pumo” in Wa language, meaning blacksmith).

    Yanguo began learning ironwork from his father at the age of 21, in 1978. After his father passed away, he further honed his skills by traveling to Yancheng, Wa State, Myanmar, to study with renowned local blacksmiths. This expanded his craftsmanship and mastery of the art.

    He works with a variety of metals including cast iron, aluminum, and silver, producing functional tools such as long knives, machetes, hoes, and axes, as well as decorative items like headbands and bracelets. His precision and skill have earned him widespread recognition and trust from local communities, with villagers often bringing materials for him to craft.

    • Preserving Tradition: Yanguo is well-versed in Wa customs and rituals. To ensure the continuity of this traditional craft, he has trained apprentices, including Yangong (aged 30+) from his village, passing on essential skills and knowledge.
