Menglun Town (勐仑镇) is located in the northwest of Mengla County (勐腊县), Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture (西双版纳傣族自治州), Yunnan Province. It lies between latitude 21°50′–21°59′N and longitude 101°00′–101°25′E. It borders Yiwu Township (易武乡) to the east, Guanlei Town (关累镇) to the south, and Jinghong City’s Menghan Town (勐罕镇) and Jinuo Ethnic Township (基诺山基诺族乡) to the west. To the north, it connects with Xiangming Yi Ethnic Township (象明彝族乡). The town covers a total area of approximately 355 square kilometers.
Menglun Town (勐仑镇) was historically part of a native chieftain domain. In 1913, it belonged to the Fifth District Administrative Subdivision (Mengla). In 1953, it came under Banna Yiwu jurisdiction. By 1957, it became Menglun District and part of Yiwu County. In 1969, it was reorganized as Tuanjie Commune, renamed Menglun Commune in 1972, and became Menglun District again in 1984. In 1988, it was officially designated as Menglun Town. In August 2017, the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development recognized Menglun as part of the second batch of National Characteristic Towns in China.
Menglun Town (勐仑镇) is home to 14 ethnic groups including the Dai (傣族), Hani (哈尼族), Han (汉族), and Yi (彝族). Each group retains its distinct cultural traditions. The Dai people celebrate Water Splashing Festival and Closing-the-Door Festival, while the Hani people observe the October New Year. Folk music and dance are central to community life, with performances such as the Hani and Yi “Yenike” (烟盒舞), “Four-String Dance” (四弦舞), and “Bamboo Pipe Dance” (跳笙).
Menglun (勐仑) experiences a subtropical rainforest monsoon climate with spring-like weather year-round and no frost. The annual average temperature ranges from 21°C to 22°C, with an average annual rainfall of about 1600 mm. The best time to visit is from November to April when the weather is pleasantly cool and ideal for outdoor activities.
