Xuanfu Chieftain House is located in Nayun Town, Menglian County, Puer City. Xuanfu Chieftain House, covering an area of more than 10,000 square meters, is the headquarters government office of Yunnan in Qing Dynasty, and is the best preserved among the 18 Chieftain-bureaucratic in Yunnan. In 1965, Menglian Chieftain House was listed as a provincial key cultural relics protection unit. It is not only a witness to the history of the Yi people, but also a symbol of the unity and friendship of the 14 inhabitants of Menglian. The Xuanfu Chieftain House has attracted the attention of experts and scholars, attracting the attention of many media, attracting the gathering of tourists and becoming one of the most attractive ancient buildings in Yunnan Province.
Xuanfu Chieftain House was founded in Ming Dynasty(1406), destroyed in the 27th year of Qing Dynasty (1762), the existing building was rebuilt in the Qing Dynasty (1878), sitting north and facing south. It covers an area of 6,738.19 square meters and the building area of 3,400 square meters. It consists of the Chamber of Commerce, the main hall, the east wing room, the west wing room, the door hall, and the kitchen. The main hall of the Menglian Xuanfu Chieftain House is the three-story dry-column wooden house with a length of 23.2 meters, a width of 10.2 meters and a height of 10.2 meters. The base column has six rows and 47 columns, which are arranged symmetrically.
This ancient building is well preserved, blending the features of Dai culture and Han architecture. The rule of the Dai hereditary officer has lasted for more than 500 years since the Ming and Qing dynasties.
Going to the second floor of the Chamber of Commerce, this is the place where officer worked. The platform that stands at the forefront of the house is the “throne” of the house. The high-rise flags and ceremonies are on both sides of the throne, and two golden umbrellas with gemstones are particularly eye-catching. In the past, Dao’s officer summoned the heads of the Yi, Lahu, and Yi people to discuss things here, and the time has passed for hundreds of years. The light is dim, especially in the sense of being strict and old.
Passing through the Chamber of Commerce, you will arrive at the back garden, where a variety of tropical plants and flowers are planted, and the sun is shining with warm flowers. A large piece of red bougainvillea climbs between the walls, and the tree tomato hangs from the wall with the flaming, orange-yellow fruit, decorating the gray-brown wall. The main hall is connected to the Chamber of the Chamber through a small arch bridge. The first floor of the first floor is a gabbled roof building. It is the living room of Dao’s officer and their wives. The left and right wing rooms are also the first floor and the bottom of the gabbled roof. They are symmetrical along the corridor and are integrated with the main hall. Compared with the Chamber of Deputies, the main hall is obviously much more gorgeous. Numerous golden pillars and the golden carved arches of the underarms and the complex and magnificent corbel arch are complemented by the brown-red wooden building, making the title of “Golden Royal Palace” worthy of the name. In the glass window of the wing room, there are the blue embroidered robes and the black silk satin six-faced dynasty robes, as well as the printed letters, the literary classics, the toast household items, which are displayed on the glass window of the Qing Dynasty. It provides valuable historical materials for the study of local ethnic history.
These cultural relics with historical value and artistic value are precious material materials for studying the history of Menglian and the system of the Chieftain, reflecting the history of the implementation of the Chieftain system in the frontier ethnic areas of the province during the Ming and Qing Dynasties. At the same time, it is also a typical representative of the border region to defend the country and maintain the unity of all ethnic groups.

Bixi Ancient Town of Mojiang Hani Autonomous County was formerly an important stage along the Ancient Tea Horse Road, a town where traveling merchants could not avoid.
Bixi Ancient Town, along with the Ancient Tea Horse Road, is a living fossil of ancient international commercial road, the ethnic migration corridor, and the route along which Buddhism was introduced eastwards. It was a “living fossil” on the Yunnan-Tibet section of the Ancient Tea Horse Road, a significant stage that merchants and caravans traveling to Chuxiong, Dali and Lijiang in the north, Yuxi and Kunming in the east, and Pu’er and Xishuangbanna in the south, must go through.
Going from Mojiang County to the north and experiencing 20 kilometers of winding landscape (it only takes 9 kilometers to drive via expressway), Bixi Ancient Town comes to you. Splendid scenery is so fascinating, such charming mountains and rivers, ethereal clouds and quiet villages are deeply rooted in travel memories. You may visit here along regular way on foot or by bus.
On the way to Bixi Ancient Town, anticipative plantains and bamboos on the roadside come to the eyes, erecting silently in attaching manner, and two fat gooses freely enjoy themselves in the water in remote pond. As the spring befalls just now, the seedlings haven’t completely planted in the field. Mountains embraced Bixi Ancient Town seems to be slightly hectic and constraint. It is located in the edge of the expressway, by which only five minutes’ drive is required.
Bixi Ancient Town is big titled while being mentioned, not only former home of Yu Enyang, the “Hero of Restoration” and “Defending General” during the period of the republic of China taken the hometown of Yu Chengqing, a famous star. A well-known ancient trade route slowly flows from its memory of blue and green bricks.
Bixi Ancient Town, formerly known as Bisu, is former residence of Gongshun Prefecture in Ming Dynasty. The town, firstly built in the 4th year of Yongle Era in Ming Dynasty (1460), has been nearly 600 years of history till now. Once Bixi Ancient Town in the history was important hub and trade route post in the South of Yunnan, and numerable caravans and traveling merchants carrying Puer Tea passed through that “Ancient Trade Route” in the town. They stayed and traded here. Thanks to convenient traffic and frequent business travel, this almost unknown town was once in full flourish.
The buildings and streets of ancient town are designed in unique styles. The entire ancient town, centering on cross street, is divided into four downtowns, while the middle of the cross street is the center of the town. Civilian dwelling houses are mostly integrated with architecture arts with different styles including the quadrangular patio, courtyard house, three-courtyard house & one-screen wall, Zouma Zhuanjiao building (a building beside the front building at the right or left corner and surrounded by a corridor) and “Yikeyin” building (shaped like a Chinese seal), ridges, eaves, stone carvings, doors and windows, fences, wood carvings, brick carvings, plain ink paintings, stone painting and colored drawings dazzle and shine, and antique wares take on ancient favors with beautiful and grave shapes, fully embodying the wonderfulness and lasting charm of Han culture in Ming dynasty.
Historically, the ancient town was provided with the rampart and eastern, southern, western and northern gates, and emplacements and loopholes were available, looking as if a heavily guarded castle. It is historically alleged that the ancestors of Han nationality in Bixi Ancient Town are aborigines from Zhejiang and Jiangsu, who, followed Mu Ying, a general in Ming Dynasty to settle in Yunnan not only brought advanced farming technologies and business philosophy but also promoted the culture and goodness, flourishing schooling education. Gongshun Prefecture, a jurisdiction set up by Ming Government, lasted 128 years.
Bixi Ancient Town is quite, being silent like a specimen left amid the crack of the history. Walking on the empty street, along the way you are enabled to notice wooden buildings with carved patterns almost decayed and cobwebs closely distributed on antefixes. The street is deserted, only a few old man sitting under the turret leisurely chat. Occasionally several “tour pals” take out their cameras, randomly shoot against dated antefixes and broken stone carvings. The inns on the curbside retain their original appearances, shimmering green tiles seem to be telling remote stories.
The town, still featured with ancient favor, it is the birthplace of outstanding talents. Yu Family, undoubtedly, was a local noble family, three brothers born here, were well-known role in the history of Yunnan. Yu Enyang, youngest brother, previously followed Li Genyuan and Tang Jiyao and learned the military in the school for noncommissioned officers in Japan, joined in Chinese Revolutionary League organized by Sun Yat-sen in Japan, initiated and commanded “Chongjiu Uprising” in Yunnan, and successively served as army commander of Yunnan Army, the governor of Guizhou, the principal of Yunnan Military Academy, was an influential celebrity in military circles, almost received the title of Cai E and Tang Jiyao, and was conferred with the military rank of admiral after death. Yu Enxi, second elder brother, the mayor of Kunming during the period of Republic of China, contributed and built the “Garden for Yu Family”, and established Asia Tobacco Company, the first cigarette fact[FS:Page]ory. The cigarettes titled with “Chongjiu” produced was to commemorate the “Chongjiu Uprising” led by his younger brother. Yu Enrong, the eldest brother, ever acted as general executive officer of Fudian Bank, director general of Finance of Yunnan, senator, and president of Kunming Branch, Red Cross. Three brothers had critical and great influences at that period. With regard to Yu Chengqing, their successor, is only a tiny figure at modern times.

Nujiang Grand Canyon is the longest and most mysterious, precipitous and unsophisticated canyon in the world, which goes southeast from Yarlung Tsangpo Grand Canyon in south-north trend. The part in Yunnan reaches a length of more than 300 kilometers and a average depth of 2000 meters. The deepest part is located in Bingzhongluo, known as ‘Grand Canyon of the East’. The spectacular Nujiang Grand Canyon and the roaring Nujiang River thrill and shock the travelers.
Nujiang Grand Canyon is located Nujiang Lisu Autonomous Prefecture, northwest of Yunnan province. From the point of view of China map, it is just at the position of “chicken ass”. Nujiang river originated in the foothill of the Mount tunggula in Qinghai-Tibet plateau, via Yunnan, from north to south and then go into Burma (called the Salween river in Burma), then enter into the Indian Ocean, the whole length is more than 1540 km.
The Nujiang River surges forward between Gaoligong Mountain and Biluo Mountain. The altitudes of all the mountains beside the two banks are over 3,000 meters. As the drop height of the river is high, the river water is rapidly rushing and the wave is high, forming a very spectacular sight. There are many steep cliffs at both banks. Flowing toward the south with an annual water amount of 1.6 times that of the Yellow River, the river is impinging against the banks and thus forms the steep Nujiang Grand Canyon.
Along the Nujiang Grand Canyon, there are a few minorities live in Hushui County, Gongshan County and Fugong County, such as Lisu nationality, Nu nationality, Dulong Nationality and Zang nationality. One cannot imagine people living on such steep inclines. Most mountain inhabitants live in wooden sheds and huts built on the side or even the top of the mountain.Villages on the other bank of the river are accessed either by narrow hanging bridges constructed with small wooden planks strung together with rattan tied to trees; or by sliding on overhead cables that span the river. The cables are tied to trees on either side of the river and to cross, one is suspended from a rope loop attached to a harness worn around the waist.
As affected by the southwestern monsoon climate of the Indian Ocean, Nujiang Grand Canyon forms a special climate that there are four seasons in a same mountain and the weathers are different within five kilometers. It is a common phenomenon that the trees are verdant and green in the river valley that is sweltering as in summer, the flowers are in full bloom and the grasses become yellow on the sidehill, and the mountaintop is the world of ice and snow as in winter.
Nujiang river within the territory of Nujiang county is more than 310 km, due to river east has Biluo snow mountain (has more than 20 peaks are 4000 meters above the peak), river west has Gaoligong mountains (also has more than more than 20 peaks which are 4000 meters), Nujiang river flowing between these two mountains, on both sides of the mountain is magnificent, all in the 3000 meters above sea level, deep valleys, big river fall, and the rapid water form a 310 km long, 2000-3000 meters deep canyon area. On upper Nujiang grand canyon–Qinatongnakaluo, the snow mountain in the both side is 5000-6000 meters high, the river at an altitude of 2000 meters high, 3000-4000 m elevation difference, because the mountain bold, river rushing, sparsely populated, this section of the canyon appear depth, become the perfect place for adventure tourism.
The scenery is magnificent. Almost too good to be true. But there it is before your eyes: overwhelming memories of other beautiful places you have seen with its colour, scale and grandeur. Farms and villages mottling this riverine wonderland which is home to Nu, Lisu, Drung, and Tibetan minority people. Forests, streams and waterfalls adding their particular features to the bigger picture.

The First Gulf of Nujiang River(怒江第一湾)
When Nujiang River flows through Ridan Village of Bingzhongluo, it is obstructed by Wangqing Grand Cliff so that Nujiang River is forced to flow in east-west trend instead of north-south trend. After running 300 meters, Nujiang River is cut off by Danla Mountain so it turn round from west to east. Hence the half-round gulf of Nujiang River.
Bingzhongluo
Bingzhongluo, which is called ‘A Heaven of Peace and Happiness’, is the most beautiful place in Nujiang Grand Canyon. It represents the southernmost extent of the Tibetan culture, and the northernmost extent of Han Chinese influence in the valley.
►Due to the inconvenience of transportation, the best traveling way is car-rental.

The route became known as the tea-horse trail. By the time it had reached India, the tea fermented and turned black. It was then bought by merchants that took it to Europe and other parts of the world.
As many overseas Chinese’ ancestors lived in 600-year-old Heshun, almost every resident in Heshun Old Town has friends and relatives abroad. Neighboring Myanmar is famous for its jade, and Heshan has been a trade center for this precious stone since ancient times. Long caravans would come from Sichuan and other parts of Yunnan and pass through Heshun en route to Myanmar and India where they went in search of jade.
Venturing abroad to engage in the jade trade was often hard and dangerous work, but for those brave enough to try, it was very rewarding and brought about dramatic changes in their lives. Traders who had made their fortunes overseas opened businesses in Shanghai, Hong Kong and Southeast Asia, and built luxurious family mansions in Heshun equipped with new and exotic commodities that they had brought back to their hometown.
As a small town, Heshun boasts many unique characteristics Its roads are paved with paving stones whose luster after a rainfall bears witness to their antiquity. They subscribe to newspapers and magazines and keep abreast of domestic and international current affairs. Ancient buildings in Baoshan Stone Village
Baoshan Stone Village is located in the Jinshajiang River ravine, 110 km north of Lijiang city. About 100 families live in the village, which got its name by being located near a giant stone that looks like a mushroom. Three sides of the giant stone are cliffs, and another side faces Jinshajiang River. One can enter the village from only two stone gates, one on the south and one on the north.
Houses in the village are all made of natural stones, and people carve the houses in the stones. Visitors are amazed by the superb craftsmanship done by the village ancestors hundreds of years ago.
There are terrace fields on the hillside around Stone Village. The view in Baoshan Stone Village is breathtaking during the summer and autumn.
Independent Irrigation System
The most wonderful thing in the village is the independent aqueducts/irrigation system. The villagers use them for each track of field, but without any affection on those of others.

Feilai temple, the best place to watch goden peaks of Meili mountain at sunrise. So if u plan to watch sunrise, it’s absolutely a good idea to live at Feilai temple the night before. But actually it is unusual to see the goden peaks. The peaks of the mountains are often surrounded with clouds due to the high altitude they are. And this makes more interestings for Meili. There’s a kind of saying that, if any Japanese appears in this area then people can’t see the golden peaks that day. This is because Japanese are not welcomed by Tibetan people. Yes, they hate Japan and Japanese, just like people in notheast of China.

Covering an area of 190,000 hectares, Baima Snow Mountain National Nature Reserve has a complete vertical sight of virgin forest and rare plants and animals. There are 20 peaks of more than 5.000 meters above sea level, among which the highest is Baima Snow Mountain covered with snow all year round, with the altitude of 5,430 meters. It aims to protect the rare black snub-nosed monkeys, and natural views of the typical mountainous vertical zone (high mountains and canyons) of the Hengduan Mountain Range.
Situated on the central part of the Hengduan Mountains, Baima Snow Mountain Nature Reserve stands on the slope of the section between the Baima Snow Mountain, the major peak in the north of the Yunling Ranges and Renzhi Snow Mountain. It is between Deqin County of the Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture and Markam County in the Tibet Autonomous Region. It’s high in the north and low in the south, in the transitional zone between Qinghai-Tibet plateau and Yunnan-Guizhou plateau.
Baima Snow Mountain Nature Reserve was established by the people’s government of Yunnan province in 1983, and was promoted to national level in 1988. Approved by the general office of the state council in 2000, the expanded reserve covers nine townships (towns) in Deqin and Weixi counties in the Tibetan autonomous prefecture of Diqing. It is recognized as a “Kingdom of Animals and Plants in a Cold Temperate Mountain” for its rich animal and plant resources. Overlooking the snow-capped main peak, it is just like a white horse running through the mountains, hence the name “white horse snow mountain”.
Plants:
The nature reserve has the distinct features of a three-dimensional appeal of climate and vegetation. Inside the nature reserve, there is a vast area of virgin forest including 13 species of national key protected wild plants such as Circaeaster agrestis and Pseudotsuga forrestii Craib. Highland oak birch, Yunnan pine, George’s fir, snow-white rhododendron, and vitchleaf sophora are the main plants in the reserve.
Animals:
The dense mountain forest of Baima Snow Mountain provides the best place for wild animals to live, especially the wild species of usual mammals(47 species) and birds(45 species), and some animals peculiar to the Hengduan Mountains. Such as lesser panda and green-tailed monal. As well as other rare wild animals at higher altitudes, such as snow leopard, white – eared pheasant, horse musk deer.etc. The most famous is the snub-nosed monkey or the Yunnan golden monkey, which lives in the sub-high mountain dark pine coniferous tree forests.

In the autumn, the snow mountain looks extremely high under the clear sky of autumn. As a “Kingdom of Animals and Plants in a Cold Temperate Mountain”, tourists can also have a chance to see the rare animals and plants.
The best seasons to enjoy the scenery of Baima Snow Mountain are summer and autumn from July to October. At this time, the ice along the highway are melted, and streams are babbling everywhere. The azalea like a blazing fire, birds singing in the forest, and monkeys playing all makes people fascinated. The mountain is closed from December to April because of the heavy snow and icy road.

The housed treasures include gilded Maitreya , statue of White Drolma, Buddhas of Three Worlds, the ruler of the hell, Manjusri, 18 Arhats statues and Tangkar scroll paintings depicting Buddhist stories. There are also a great number of Buddhist stupas and religious instruments and props, being a Buddhist cultural treasure house for the pilgrims.
The Moon-shaped Bend of Jinsha River
Also called the Great Bend of Jinsha River, the bend is 15 km north of Benzilan Township of Deqin County. Jinsha River, the upper reach of the Yangtze River, is blocked by mountains on its way southward, and a hairpin turn has thus been formed as a natural wonder.
Meili Snow Mountain is one of the most sacred mountains of Tibetan Buddhism. In the 1930s, they were praised by American scholars as the most beautiful mountains in the world. Meili Snow Mountain boasts numerous snow-clad ridges and peaks, thirteen of which are more than 6,000 meters above the sea level. The highest peak Kawagebo, which rises to 6,740 metres, has never been summited.
► Baima Snow Mountain Nature Reserve has the most beautiful mountain azalea forest in China, and the refreshing azalea is in full bloom in spring and summer.
