Xingfu Grassland (幸福大草原) in Kaiyuan City (开远市) was established in 2009 and is located between Dongxin Road (东新路) and Jianshe East Road (建设东路). It is adjacent to the administrative center of Kaiyuan City (开远市) and a newly developed residential area. Initially covering about 47,000 square meters, the grassland expanded to 168,000 square meters over five years of development. The grass includes walkable East African foxtail grass and a mixed blend of other grasses.

The grassland is equipped with solar- and wind-powered lighting, a large-screen television, direct drinking water facilities, and a musical fountain.

Activities and Atmosphere

As the weather in Kaiyuan (开远) becomes increasingly warm, many citizens flock to the grassland after dinner. Families bring mats or blankets, and both adults and children enjoy various activities. Some watch television and chat, others fly kites, play frisbee, or take walks. Some even set up tents for camping. Visitors from outside Kaiyuan also come to experience the joy of the grassland. The lively and content atmosphere inspired its name, “Xingfu Grassland” (幸福大草原).

Statistics show that nearly ten thousand people visit the grassland every night. Because of its spaciousness and facilities, the Kaiyuan City (开远市) government has designated it as a disaster prevention and risk refuge site.
