Being around 100 kilometers from Kunming（昆明）, the City of Yuxi（玉溪市） covers a total area of 15,285 square kilometers, with a population of 2.3 million(in 2010), which borders on Kunming in the north, Pu’er City in the southwest, Honghe Hani and Yi Autonomous Prefecture in the southeast, and Chuxiong Yi Autonomous Prefecture（楚雄彝族自治州） in the northwest. It is divided into 2 municipal districts, 5 counties, 3 autonomous counties, with Hongta District（红塔区） assigned as its administrative headquarter.
In topography, its northwestern region is higher than the southeastern part, with mountains, canyons, plateaus and basin distributed across. The City of Yuxi is famous for its large amount of grain production, as well as premium quality tobacco.
