Liqi Subdistrict of Hongta District, Yuxi
Geographical Location
Liqi Subdistrict is situated in the northeast of Hongta District (红塔区), Yuxi City (玉溪市), Yunnan Province. It borders Anhua Township (安化乡) of Jiangchuan County (江川县) to the east, Longma Road (龙马路) of urban area to the south, Chunhe Subdistrict (春和街道) to the west, and Beicheng Subdistrict (北城街道) to the north. The administrative office is located at Lumietun (陆篾屯), approximately 3 kilometers from Hongta District government and 87 kilometers from Kunming City (昆明市).
Cultural History
Liqi Subdistrict got its name from “Liqi Tun” (李旗屯), which originated during the Ming Dynasty’s farming settlement period when the local banner leader’s surname was Li (李). The character “旗” (banner) was later mistakenly written as “棋” (chess). Historically, the area belonged to Xiuna County (休纳县) of Xinxing Prefecture (新兴州) during the Yuan Dynasty, Yunnan Zhongwei Wu and Guangnan Wei (云南中卫伍及广南卫) during the Ming Dynasty, and Zhonghe and Guangyi villages (中和、广义乡) of Xinxing Prefecture during the Qing Dynasty. On December 24, 1949, it was established as Zhongguang District (中广区) of Yuxi County, and after several administrative adjustments, it was officially renamed Liqi Subdistrict on March 7, 2011.
