Drive to Jianshui (4-5hrs ). You will visit Shuanglong Birdge and Tuanshan Village as well as the Garden of Family Zhang in Tuanshan Village. Tuanshan Village is a rare surviving example of an intact-albeit neglected-traditional walled Yunnan village compound in southwestern China, and has been added to the 2005 list of internationally significant sites by the World Memorial Fund for Architecture (WMF), an international fund for the protection of world heritage sites. Later , you’ll visit the Jianshui Old Town and the Chaoyang Gateway Tower, which was built in Ming Dynasty (1389). It is also known as ‘Miniature Tian’an men’ because the out shape of it is similar to Tian’anmen Square in Beijing.

Without hard work maintaining the terrace walls and irrigation system, the precious top soil would wash down the hillsides into the rivers.

During winter to early spring, the entire field is irrigated with spring water from the forest above to rejuvenate and getting prepared for the next season. The Hani people have repeated this for more than a thousand years. There is only one harvest in a year for the Yuanyang Rice Terrace; planting is from March to Oct./Nov. every year.

Yubeng Village is a beautiful and miraculous place. When trekking in Yubeng Village, tourists will have a sense of walking at Shangri-La. In the morning, you’ll visit the tranquil Bita Lake & Shudu Lake in Pudacuo National Park, which is located in one of the most biologically-diverse regions of the world. While the region comprises only 0.7 percent of China’s land area, it contains more than 20 percent of the country’s plant species, about one-third of its mammal and bird species and almost 100 endangered species.

Continue to visit the Ganden Sumtseling Monastery, the largest Tibetan monastery in Yunnan. Songzanlin Monastery has another alias – ‘the little Potala Palace ‘, so named because the whole monastery is in the traditional style with mysterious atmosphere. Stroll around Dukezong Ancient Town, an important town of the Ancient Tea-horse Trade Caravan from Yunnan to Tibet and India. Walk up to the top of Guishan Hill or Tortoise Hill, you will see the Grand Prayer Wheel and have a panoramic view of Shangri-La County and Dukezong Ancient Town.

Day 3 Shangri-La – Deqin -Feilaisi

In the morning, drive 4 to 5 hours to Deqin County (3400m altitude) which is 187km away from Shangri-La. The view along the way is fantastic with different kinds of trees, streams down the valley, prayer flags and stupas, and Tibetan villages. From Shangri-La, after half an hour driving, you will have a panoramic view of Naxi Pottery Village; drive down to the river valley, continue the nice scenery along the Jinsha River to Benzilan Town where you will have lunch.

After lunch, drive uphill to the Dongzhulin Monastery which is located in Shusong Village, Benzilan District, Deqin County, and 105km from the seat of Zhongdian County. The Yunnan-Tibet Road passes behind the temple and cars can get straight to the temple. The Dongzhulin Monastery was built in 1667, the sixth year of the Kang Xi Period in Qing Dynasty. Visit the First Bend of Jinsha River or Moon Bend, which is the boundary between Sichuan and Yunnan. This is different from the First Bend of Yangtze River in Lijiang City. The bend in Shigu Town changes the flow direction of the Yangtze River but in Benzilan, the Moon Bend is just a grand bend between the mountains with an impressive scenery. Visit Baimang Snow Mountain Nature Reserve, you will be able to view Baima Snow Mountain if the weather is clear, pass the top part of today at 4292m altitude at 156km.

Arrive in Feilaisi in the late afternoon, you will have a nice sunset view of Meili Snow Mountain from the Sightseeing Platform, where you can see the 13 white pagodas meaning of the 13 peaks of Meili Snow Mountain over 6,000 meters (19,685 feet) above sea level, known as the “Prince’s 13 peaks”.

Day 5 Upper Yubeng Village- Cuoka Sacred Ice Lake-Upper Yubeng Village​

Enjoy the sunrise of the Mt. Kawagebo Glacier from the guesthouse, then walk up to Binghu Ice Lake of the Meili Snow Mountain.Walk through the original forest from Yubeng Village, you will see some horses and yaks, as well as some wild animals if you are lucky enough. A beautiful river originate from the Glacier Park, walk along the river with some wooden bridges and spruce trees, you will have a wonderful view of Mt. Kawagebo Glacier. At last, arrive at the Ice Lake which is located at the foot of the glacier. Trek down back to Yubeng village in the late afternoon and enjoy the sunset of Kawagebo Peak .

The return trek takes 3 to 4 hours. This one-day excursion is only reserved for strong hikers. Before June, the upper plateau is often covered by snow. Bring enough food and ask Aqinbu to find a good guide for you. It may be more reasonable to do this trek in two days and overnight camp at Cuoka Pasture.

These rice terraces – carved out of the mountainsides by generations of Hani people – are said to be among the most magnificent in the world. Get up very early to see the sunrise over the terraces at Duoyi village and then visit the local Hani and Yi people. During the day you will visit different areas of the huge valley to see the amazing engineering and beautiful formations of the terraces. There are lots of rice terraces in Yuanyang, you will choose the most beautiful parts of them to visit.

In the late afternoon,  drive back to Xinjie Town, enjoy the sunset view of Longshuba Rice Terraces and villages.

Day 6 Yuanyang-Jianshui

After breakfast in the hotel, drive about 3 hours to Jianshui County. On the way back, visit Jianshui Swallow Cave which is the largest karst formation cave in Asia. There are usually thousands of swallows flying around in this aptly named cave.You will follow a guide in the cave to see the striking caverns and also to see the bare hand rock climbing performance in the cave. Walk into the cave and visit the colorful Karst landform and take the small boat cruise out of the cave.

Arrive in Jianshui Ancient Town in the afternoon, pay a visit to Jianshui Ancient Town, Zhu Family Garden and Jianshui Confucius Temple. Visit the famous Confucius Temple with its interesting history. Confucious was born in Shandong province 2,500 years ago and taught more than 3,000 students in his lifetime, among them 72 were outstanding. He is the greatest teacher in China’s history and has worldwide influence.

Day 7 Jianshui-Kunming

Visit Menglun Botanical Garden– Menglun tropical botanical garden is the largest tropical botanical garden in China. The garden boasts more than 4000 species of tropical plants covering an area of 900 hectares, quite a few of which are rare elsewhere, forming a colorful botanical landscape.

In the afternoon, drive to visit Jinuo Mountain.Visit Jinuo People, who uniquely belongs to this region, is the last ethnic nationality classified by Chinese Government in 1979. Then drive to visit Xishuangbanna Primeval Forest Park. Xishuangbanna Primeval Forest Park, also called Xishuangbanna Virgin Forest Park,  is 8 kilometers east of the Jinghong City and north of the Lancang River. Situated in a river valley of 720 to 1,355 meters above sea level, the forest park has an area of 1,700 hectares of which 98％ is covered by trees, and is thus the largest comprehensive ecological place of interest in the prefecture.

And afterwards you’ll visit the tranquil Bita Lake & Shudu Lake in Pudacuo National Park is located in one of the most biologically-diverse regions of the world. While the region comprises only 0.7 percent of China’s land area, it contains more than 20 percent of the country’s plant species, about one-third of its mammal and bird species and almost 100 endangered species.

Visit Dukezong Tibetan Ancient Town in the late afternoon, climb up to the top of Guishan Hill or tortoise Hill, you will see the largest Prayer Wheel of the world and have a panoramic view of shangrila county and Dukezong Ancient Town.

Day 3 Shangri-La – Benzilan – Feilaisi

In the morning, drive 4 to 5 hours to Deqin County(3400m altitude) which is 187km away
from Zhongdian through Baimang Snow Mountain Nature Reserve. You will be able to view Baimang Snow Mountain if the weather is clear, pass the top part of today at 4292m altitude at 156km. 

After traversing mountain ranges, you will make a short stop and have lunch at Benzilan town, take some shots on  the first bend of Jinsha(Yangtze) River, Dongzhulin monastery and view of Baima (white horse) Snow Mountain. The view along the way is fantastic with different kinds of trees, streams down the valley, prayer flags and stupas, and Tibetan villages.

Arrive in Feilaisi in the late afternoon, you will have a nice sunset view of Meili Snow Mountain from the Sightseeing Platform. Stay at Feilaisi for overnight.

The Water-Splashing Festival, New Years Day by Dai calendar, will be celebrated in the Jinghong City Proper between April 12 and 18. Day 1 Arrive in Kunming

You’ll begin your journey to the diverse and captivating province of Yunnan from the capital city, Kunming. Upon arrival at the Kunming International Airport, meet your local guide and transfer to the hotel.

You will take a leisurely stroll along the Green Lake, a charming area of teahouses and small boutiques selling handicrafts and beautiful local paintings. If time permits, you will have a Kunming city tour. 

Day 2 Kunmingc

Sightseeing and Activities:the Stone Forest, Jiuxiang Cave

After breakfast, you’ll be driven 86 km to the renowned Stone Forest, the ‘First Wonder of the World’. You’ll marvel at its natural stone masterpieces and be bewitched by the intricate formations. You feel like come into a ‘stone world’.

Afterwards, visit Qixing Village of Sani Ethnic People, to admire their colorful minority costumes and exotic tradition cultures. You’ll have a nice chance to listen to the touching love story of Ashima told by local old people. The Sani minority people are one group of the branches of the Yi. The Sani Minority Villages around the Stone Forest cluster many small Yi ethnic villages.

After lunch, drive back to visit Jiuxiang Cave. At last, drive back to Kunming and transfer to the hotel.

Day 3 Kunming-Dongchuan

After breakfast in hotel, drive to Dongchuan Red Land(150 km 4 hours on national highway), arrive at Dongchuan Red Land in the afternoon, after a short rest, then go to take photos at Damakan hill, JingxiuYuan Hill and so on, there are about 6 to 7 spots around.

Dongchuan, a rural place in the Wumeng Mountainous area, about 180km north of Kunming, becomes very famous among Chinese photographers for its  red soil. In the mid 1990s, the first Chinese photographers came to discover the Wumeng’s scenery. The first came and scooped award-winning photos, but kept their location a closely guarded secret. But slowly the details leaked and now more and more photographers are making their arduous trip into the arid mountains. The brilliant red soil, the yellow buckwheats and the dramatic skies make the region around Dongchuan a paradise for photographers.

After lunch, it is time for another shoot as the light turns warmer and brings out the best in Dongchuan’s colors. All over the hills the photographers wander in search of an undiscovered view.

But at sunset, everybody gathers at 110, another nameless spot along the road. Among all the shooting spots, Luoxia Gou is the ultimate shot. The sunset at Red Soil is spectacular. Stay over night at guesthouse (best available).

Day 4 Dongchuan-Jiaozi Snow Mountain

Some Question and Answers about Meals in China:

1.Are the meals shown in the itinerary pre-arranged or could we make our own orders when we sit down at the table?

Answer: To guarantee the hygiene and quality, most of the meals are pre-arranged in the government approved restaurants, which are all set-menu meals. You can not make your own orders at this point. We also arrange a la carte meals in some restaurants, which have been inspected by the management of our company. If you have special requirements for meals, please inform us before the tour starts so we can make relevant arrangements.

2.What kind of meals will be available on tour?

Answer: All breakfasts are served at your hotel with western style buffet including fruits, cold and hot cereals, Chinese dim sum etc. Lunch and dinner are usually Chinese food. Each lunch and dinner will be offered with two cups of soft drink free of charge.

3.Do you provide vegetarian (including no chicken or seafood) meals?

Answer: Yes, we do provide vegetarian meals if required. We always respect the clients’ dietetic habits and try our best to cater to their needs. But we would like to explain that if you are not on a private tour, you will have to share the vegetarian dishes with other members of the group.

4.Do we share large tables with other people?

Answer: If you are on a private tour, you will have your own table, but if you join in a group tour you will have to share a large table with other members of your group.

5.Can I arrange my own meals rather than the pre-arranged restaurants in the tours?

Answer: Yes, you can but we do not suggest you do so.

Firstly the restaurants we arrange are all approved by the national tourism administration or local tourism bureau and therefore are reliable in terms of hygiene and quality. Secondly, we arrange good restaurants located the closest to the place you will visit, that is to say, we will save time spent in transit and allow you the maximum time to enjoy your sightseeing as well as your meal. If you prefer to find a restaurant yourselves, you might not be able to find a reliable one with good quality because you are not familiar with local area. You might also sacrifice valuable eating and sightseeing time searching for a restaurant.

6.What are the suggestions for dinners that are not included in the program?

Answer: Besides some unique meals, like roast duck, we leave almost all dinners to discover for yourselves. You do not need to worry, however, about where or what to have for dinner. In each city, there are good things to eat and you only need to ask for suggestions from your local guide. Please always remember to choose a restaurant respected for its hygiene and quality.

China is a country of good food and there are eight main cuisines. Make sure to try some of these typical dishes when you have time.

7.Can you give us an idea of how much Chinese Yuan we will need for meals during our tour? Do they accept credit cards?

Answer: The meal price depends on the grade of the restaurant you choose and the dishes you order. Credit cards are only accepted in large hotels. In most of the restaurants in China, Chinese Yuan is more popular. In order to avoid embarrassment, we advise you to ask whether credit card is accepted before making an order.

Starting from Jinghong, drive to Mount Nannuo, see ancient tea plantation aged over 800 years of Aini people, Aini, who have been engaged in tea-planting here for centuries, visit their village and taste roasted tea they prepared in unique way, through chat we may discover how much Aini people rely on tea. Move on to Menghai, pay visit to small tea workshop in the village to learn about how fresh tea leaves are processed. Further transfer into mountainous area to Bada, do some hiking across forest to worship the King of Wild Tea Tree aged over 1700 years. On late afternoon drive back to Menghai. Stay in Menghai.

Day 2 Menghai-Jingmai-Lancang-Menglian

In the morning drive in the north to Jingmai, see the ancient tea plantation aged over 800 years, plantation was cultivated by Pu, the ancestor of Bulang Nationality today, Pu was the earliest ethnic group who began to domesticate wild tea plant for drinking in Yunnan. In the area thousands of aged tea trees in wildness are still lush and producing buds, for long term plantation is under natural state without farmer’s taking care,  output is low, but very organic and with pretty high quality. In the afternoon long drive to Shangyun via Lancang. Stay in Shangyun, at simple local hotel or guesthouse.

Day 3 Menglian-Bangwei-Lancang

Drive up mountain to Banwei, a small village lying on hillside with an elevation of around 1900 meters, we will see a tea tree aged over 1000 years here, different from the King of Wild Tea Tree and 800-year-old tea trees in ancient plantation, this is a breed between wild and domesticated, with obvious features of the both, it’s taken as a very important evidence improving that local ethnic groups tried to plant wild tea for drinking as early as 1000 years ago. In the afternoon transfer back to Lancang, en route if have more time, do some random stops for visiting ethnic villages. Stay in Lancang.

Day 4 Lancang-Puer

Move to Pu’er along mountainous road and across the upriver Mekong. After arrival in the afternoon, drive to see the ancient tea caravan way that still winds its way on ridges of mountains, of which the paving stones are still telling people the former prosperity of tea trade along this trail, pay visit to ethnic village around and family who used to run hostel specially for tea transporting caravans to discover some stories about tea trade in the past. Day 5 Puer-Jinghong

Visit Tea Culture Park near Pu’er, see how tea is processed and taste Pu’er Tea. Pu’er Tea is actually a kind of green tea, the difference is it’s slightly fermented, naturally through store of certain term, normally 7-8 years, or artificially by certain technology, fermentation makes it taste milder and softer, so well accepted by most people. Later get on the way back to Jingong. Stop en route to enjoy view of vast tea plantation near Dadugan, another famous tea producing area. In addition drop in Wild Elephant Valley, take cable lift above jungle for forest view and some relaxation. Stay in Jinghong.

Day 6 Jinghong-Menglun-Yiwu

Go along the Mekong to Ganlanba, a major residential area of Dai People, see a lively daily market where local people sell or buy food and other native products. Drive to Yiwu, a small town once boomed due to tea trade in the history, see the old part of town and the stele erected in Qing Dynasty that recorded the trade situation at that time, pay visit to local families that are still producing Pu’er Tea the traditional way. Visit the Yiwu Mountain Tea Plantation and Puer tea factory. Stay in Yiwu Town.

Day 7 Yiwu-Menglun-Jinghong

Enjoy morning freshness in the botanical garden, have a relaxing walk in natural zone for a short experience, learn the great bio-diversity of rainforest, later leave botanical garden for Jinuo Mountain Area, visit Jinuo People, who uniquely belongs to this region, is the last ethnic nationality classified by Chinese Government in 1979. See the ancient tea plantations around Jinuo village, which used to be one of Six Great Tea Mountains reputed as the cradles of famous Pu’er Tea, try Wrap-charcoaled Tea and Salad Tea Jinuo people prepare in their traditional way. Continue to visit the Ganden Sumtseling Monastery, the largest Tibetan monastery in Yunnan. Songzanlin Monastery has another alias – ‘the little Potala Palace ‘, so named because the whole monastery is in the traditional style with mysterious atmosphere.

Travel to Napahai Lake and walk around Yila Grassland in the late afternoon.

In the dry season, the lakebed transforms into Yila Grassland, a vast expanse of green fields. This area is home to a variety of wildlife, including birds such as black-necked cranes, which can often be seen in the area.
