Guandu Old Town had been a big market town and communication center at that time.

Day 5 Kunming-Dali

After that you’ll cruise Erhai Lake by the small boat in the east Erhai Lake. There are 200 Bai ethnic families around 1000 people in Jinsuo Island. In Erhai Lake cruise, you will enjoy the green Cangshan Mountain and the Three Pagodas from a far as well as lots of birds and seagulls flying over the lake.

Then go to visit Three Pagodas in Chongshen Monastery , which has a history of over 1,800 years. It is located at the foot of Cangshan Mountain facing to the Erhai Lake. Three Pagodas are made of three ancient independent pagodas forming a symmetrical triangle. Later visit Zhoucheng Village and the Bai people’s Tie-dying cloth workshop where you can get some special souvenirs with the Bai ethnic style.

At last, you will visit the Dali Old Town, walk around the Foreigner Street and enjoy the free time with local people.

In the morning, drive about 30 km to Ganhaizi Meadow, you will take the sightseeing bus for a short visit through the Baishuihe River, then take the chairlift up to visit Yak Meadow of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. The cable-way will be arranged according to the condition of the mountain. You will hike around 1 hour in the original forest in Yak Meadow.

After lunch, you will enjoy the Impression Lijang Ethnic Show(regular seat) directed in Ganhaizi Meadow. A cultural show demonstrates the traditions and lifestyles of the Naxi, Yi and Bai peoples of the area. The show takes place in an outdoor theater of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain Park at 3500 meters. The show itself was directed by Zhang Yimou, Fan Yue and Wang Chaoge, a cast of over 500 people, and a number of horses.

Later, you’ll stroll around Baisha Old Town, which is an enchanting traditional Yunnan town. Visit the Baisha Mural about 600 years old, which is one part of the World Cultural Heritage by the UNESCO 1997.

From Lijiang, you’ll drive about 60KM to the First Bend on the Yangtze River with imposing gorge scenery, and the Iron Chain Bridge and the Red Army’s Long March Memorial Monument in the Stone Drum Town. The Town of Stone Drum got its name from a large, cylindrical, marble tablet shaped like a drum. The scenery is magnificient as the road running through the Lijiang valley which is filled with wheat fields and drying hatstacks.

Continue to visit the Tiger Leaping Gorge(Shangri-La section), the deepest gorge in the world. With 34 rapids of the Yangtze River, it is called the Jinsha in this area because you can find gold in the river.

Afternoon, you’ll head for Shangri-La, the former Zhongdian which is well-known as the paradise destination for every tourist.

In the morning, visit the famous Potala palace and explore myriad chapels in this region. Its audience halls, the jeweled and Golden burial chortens(stupa Tombs) of past Dalai Lamas, and tremendous number of Buddhist frescoes, combinations of mandala, figures of the Buddha are all made of precious metal.

In the afternoon, visit the Johkang Temple, which is built during Songtsen Gonpo’s reign by princess Wencheng of tang dynasty, 647 AD. The circular pilgrim route around Jokhang temple is called barkhor and later flourishing, forming the embryo of the city. The barkhor Street itself is the liveliest in whole Tibet, and it is possible to purchase traditional Tibetan artifacts, religious implements, antiques, books, Tibetan music instrument and traditional Tibetan clothes, etc.

Day 12 Lhasa

Drepung monastery is situated at the foothill of a mountain and was founded by Jamyang Choeje in 1416. It used to be the home of 10000 monks. Ganden podrang in Drepung is famous cause it was the government centre during fifth dalai lama, but later moved to the famous potala palace. By the time you can also visit the Nechung monastery located 1 km southeast of Drepung. It is the abode of the protector deity Pehar and the seat of the state Oracle in Tibet.

In the afternoon, explore the Sera monastery which was founded in 1419 by Tsongkapa’s disciple, Jamchen Choeje. The most attractive thing is that Monks debiting is held there in the courtyard at around 6-7:30 in the afternoon. Overnight in Lhasa (Tip: the sequence of sightseeing of first two days may be adjusted according to the reservation of visiting Potala Palace).

Day 13 Lhasa-Gyangtse-Shigatse

Passing by the green farmland of Nyangchu Valley, Yamdro-tso lakes, karo-la glacier roadside at 4960 meters, We move westwards to the second biggest city Shigatse, the area spiritually hosted by Pamchan Lama.

The most important attraction today is Yamdro-tso Lake and Kubum monastery in Gyantse. From the top of the pass of kangpa-la at 4700 meters high in clear weather, you can see the fabulous shade of deep turquoise. Yamdro-tso Lake is shaped like coiling scorpion with deep blue in color.

Kubum monastery, meaning 100,000 images in Tibetan, is the city’s foremost attraction. The 35m-high chorten (stupa) with its white layers trimmed and decorative stripes, as well as its crown-like golden dome, it is awe-inspiring. You can visit every chamber in the monastery.

Day 14 Shigatse-Lhatse-Tingri (Shegar)-Rongphu Monastery

Drive westwards to Tingri. On the way you will pass the checking point with your TTB permit, travel permit and passport, and purchase the entrance ticket of Everest Base Camp.

There is about 90 km bumpy road from Tingri to Rongphu, road is under construction. From Tingri to E.B.C with the very rough road, you should pass the wild grassland, cross the rapids river and high mountains. If it is in clear whether, you can have a glimpse of 4 mountains which is 8000 meters high or more, such as, Mt. Lhotse, Mt. Everest, Mt. Qowowuyag, Mt. Mayalu. Stay overnight at Rongphu Monastery Tent.

Day 15 Rongphu Monastery-Tingri-Shigatse

Early in the morning, see the sunrise from Rongphu, then visit Mt. Everest. It is fabulous and splendid. Then use half of an hour to Everest Base camp(Or you can also trek to Base Camp around 1.5-2 hours one way. It’s interesting and much warmer, but hard to breathe).

Hike up to the top of the photo point to take pictures of the splendid Mt. Everest. Then late in the afternoon around 13:00, drop down Everest Base Camp and back to Shigaste by friend-ship highway via Tingri.

Day 16 Shigatse-Lhasa

Arrive in Xining, your local guide will pick you up from railway station. You will have one full day tour to Qinghai Lake, the largest salt water lake in China. Cruise in the lake and visit Bird Island. On the way, you will have a stop to see the Mt. Sun and Moon, where the princess Wenchen threw the mirror down and married into the Tibetan area among the Tang Dynasty. Return to your hotel in Xining.

Day 19 Xining-Xi’an

Visit Ta’er Monastery (Kumbum Monastery) in the Huangzhong county, 26 km south of Xining. It is the birthplace of the founder of the Gelugpa Sect of Tibetan Buddhism – Tsongkhapa. The temple was later built in 1577. Then move on a 15-minute trip to the North Hill Temple to have a bird’s view of the county.

Finally visit Qinghai Provincial Museum with a few silk road exhibitions and some amazing Stone Age artifacts. Then transfer to train station for the overnight train to Xi’an.

Day 20 Xi’an

Upon arrival, you will transfer 1.5 hours to visit the famous Terracotta Warriors – one of the world’s most important archaeological finds, with troops, horses and carriages in battle formation.

Have lunch near the Terracotta Warriors area, then drive back to the downtown for visiting the Xian City Wall (Optional tour ride biking along the wall on your own), one of the oldest and best preserved Chinese city walls.

After that, drive back to your hotel.

Day 21 Xi’an-Beijing

At 07:30 am, depart from your hotel in the morning and drive to Changling of Ming Tomb. Among these Ming tombs, the largest one is Changling Tomb, which was built in 1413. It is the burial place of Zhu Di, the third Ming emperor. It is not only the largest one, but the best-preserved one among the thirteen tombs.

Visit the Mutianyu Great Wall(Optional: take cable up and down on your own) – the section of the Great Wall which is more popular among foreign visitors.

Then drive back to the downtown, have a short stop and see the exterior view of Bird Nest and Water Cube, the amazing architectures that built for Beijing Olympic Games.

After that, drive back to your hotel.

Day 23 Beijing

It is well-preserved Altars buildings. Day 1 Arrive in Chiang Mai

Upon arrival, you will check in the hotel. In the late afternoon, meet your fellow travelers at the welcome dinner and have a understanding of tour itinerary, motorcycle handover, basic group riding rules, and get familiar with the local riding environment.

Day 2 Chiang Mai-Golden Triangle (270 kilometers)

In the morning, you leave Chiang Mai towards the northeastern direction. On the way to Mae Sai, you will stop at the Mae Kachan Hot Spring, the highest hot spring in Thailand. You will pass Chiang Rai and make a stop to visit the Wat Rong Khun, the “White Temple” which is recognized as one of the main attractions in Thailand.

Then, you cruise towards the mighty Mekong River to the legendary Golden Triangle where the three borders of Thailand, Myanmar, and Laos meet. You will enjoy the sunset over the Mekong River and a dinner with a river view. You will overnight at the Golden Triangle.

Day 3 Golden Triangle-Luang Namtha (250 kilometers)

Follow the Mekong river to Chiang Khong, the gateway to Laos and China, and you cross the Mekong over the new Friendship Bridge. After completing the immigration process, you continue the remaining 200 kilometers in Laos to the laid-back town of Luang Namtha. You will overnight in Luang Namtha.

Day 4 Luang Namtha-Mengla (120 kilometers)

After breakfast, you will ride the last part through Laos before crossing into China. You will enter China at Boten, a purpose-built ‘Casino Town’ to serve the fondness for gambling. Leave Laos and reach the Chinese immigration building where your Chinese guide is already waiting for you.

After completing the immigration process, you continue 45 kilometers to Mengla, where you get your vehicles inspected, receive your driver’s license and temporary Chinese vehicle registration documents at the police station which will be quite an experience. You will overnight in Mengla where you will get your first impression of China.

Day 5 Mengla-Yuanjiang (440 kilometers)

Today, you will ride through a tea area. Did you know that tea is the second-most consumed liquid in the world after water and a good portion of it is grown right here? Nearly the entire route today is lined with tea estates growing on the mountain slopes.

This is the region where tea was first consumed and cultivated many thousands of years ago. In China, the finest tea comes from this area. You will overnight in Yuanjiang.

Day 6 Yuanjiang-Jianshui (305 kilometers)

Another great ride is in store as you head east on the northern side of the Vietnam border. Today, you have some of the best riding of the entire tour and an exceptional day in the saddle. In the morning, you will ride on a wonderful road which is running down the Red River Valley. Then, you cruise uphill into the Honghe Hani Rice Terraces.

A large variety of ethnic minorities populate this area over the centuries, they built massive rice terraces that continue forever. Ride to the tops of steep mountain ridges, on down their opposite sides, across valley after valley. Thousands of square kilometers are covered by these rice terraces and a fantastic road snakes through it all. This is the road you will ride.

It is impossible not to screech to a stop every few minutes to take another photo. You will lodge in Jianshui, a well-preserved ancient town.

Day 7 Jianshui-Stone Forest(310 kilometers)

Four UNESCO World Heritage Sites is on tap today. The Stone Forest in Shilin is one of the natural wonders on this planet. Bizarre limestone formations spring up vertically out of the ground, covering a 350 kilometer square area. Interspersed among the pillars are numerous lakes, adding even more atmosphere to this other-worldly landscape. Many of the spires look like petrified trees, thus the name. You will visit the Stone Forest in the afternoon and overnight in the area.

Day 8 Shilin-Kunming (80 kilometers)

The capital city of the Yunnan Province is your target for today. It is China’s 16th largest city with over six million inhabitants, It is also known as the “City of Eternal Spring” because of its year-round temperate weather.

Day 9 Kunming-Dali

You pass the tip of the Erhai Lake and continue northwest towards the Burmese border to Shaxi. Shaxi is a wonderful old town along the ancient tea route with plenty of old houses, handicraft, and tea shops to explore. You will overnight in Shaxi.

Day 11 Shaxi-Cizhong (290 kilometers)

Today, you spend the whole day on rural roads towards Tibet. The great pleasure comes from simply observing the people go through their daily, time-honored routines as you cruise along on our motorcycles across a landscape as pretty as a painting. In the afternoon, you enter your second UNESCO World Heritage region called the Three Parallel Rivers of Yunnan Protected Areas.

Here, three of Asia’s great rivers, the Salween, the Mekong, and the Yangtze, come tumbling down from their headwaters deep inside the Himalayas. They run in parallel gorges eroded deep into the earth’s mantle. Only thirty kilometers as the bird flies separate the three incredibly massive gorges at their narrowest point. You spend the next few days riding into and out of and along each river gorge in sequence.

You will spend a night in the quiet Tibetan village of Cizhong Village. The locals here live in small farming communities in traditional houses and are inextricably wedded to their lands, growing rice, corn, and other basic food crops exactly as their ancestors did for hundreds of generations.

Day 12 Cizhong-Shangri-La (220 kilometers)

This day, You will ride to Deqin, hard on the Tibetan-Chinese border. Deqin sits at 3,400 meters and is surrounded by snow-capped, glaciated mountains. The scenery in this county, wherever you look, is stunning. North you ride up the raw Mekong River gorge through an otherworldly landscape of raging wild rivers, near vertical cliffs, and towering, snow topped peaks that soar to over 5000 meters.

Then ride to Feilaisi and enjoy the great view of Kawakarpo, the one of the highest unclimbed mountains in the world. Continue riding over the highest pass of this tour, the White Horse Pass at 4,292 meters to Shangri-La. The landscape and scenery of the day are simply stunning. You will overnight in Shangri-La.

Day 13 Shangri-La

Shangri-La, 3,200 meters above sea level, has become synonymous with any earthly paradise, and particularly a mythical Himalayan utopia, a permanently happy land, isolating from the outside world. This day, you will visit the Gandan Sumtseling Monastery.

An afternoon walk through the old quarters having an authentic glimpse into the cobbled lanes will easily fill up the remainder of the day. At night, there is always something going on in the Old Quarter’s town square lined with antique stores and shops of all kinds. For dinner, why not try a traditional Tibetian hot pot with Yak meat?

You will overnight in Shangri-La.

Day 14 Shangri-La-Lijiang (280 kilometers)

You head east over the last pass at 3,600 meters then slowly start to decent down from the Tibetan plateau. You will ride on one of the most memorable road of all. Again, you will ride endless curves, passing through Tibetan villages and towards the end through the Tiger Leaping Gorge. This fantastic road follows a contour line along the third-deepest gorge in the world.

Lijiang is your destination for tonight. It is the third UNESCO World Heritage Site which you will visit and the most popular destination in China, even surpassing Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City in Beijing. A real party atmosphere permeates Lijiang and it is a great place to meet and mix with the locals and tourists. You will overnight in Lijiang.

Day 15 Lijiang-Dali(165 kilometers)

Lijiang Old Town is a maze of cobbled streets, canals, and stone bridges that dated back to Ming Dynasty. You are free to explore this ancient city at your leisure. Lijiang is a ‘shop till you drop’ type of place and all sorts of interesting items are for sale. You check out at 12:00 p.m. and follow your way southwards over the modern version of the Ancient Tea-Horse Road to Dali.

For a long time, Dali has been a cross road for trade and culture. Until today, this walled town is well preserved with many shops, restaurants, and bars. In the evening there is time to stroll around the streets and explore the town. You lodge in the Old Town tonight in Dali.

Day 16 Dali-Shuangjiang (385 kilometers)

In the morning, you discover the nearby Three Pagodas of Shong Sheng Temple. The elegant, balanced, and stately style is unique in China’s ancient Buddhist architectures, which makes it a must-see of your tour. Once back on the road, you ride your way through the formidable mountains that form the border between Burma and China and which also hem in the western side of the Mekong River valley.

You are so close to Burma that most of the highway signs have Burmese writing on them alongside the Mandarin. This is yet another great highway you will ride during the whole day. An added bonus is that there is hardly any traffic. Nearly 6 hours of motorcycle bliss. You will overnight in a small county called Shuangjiang.

Day 17 Shuangjiang-Jinghong (350 kilometers)

Leave Shuangjiang, you will continue bended roads, passing villages, tobacco and tea plantations. The roads are good and there is not much traffic. There are plenty of places to stop for a photo on your way. You can enjoy another pleasant riding day. In the afternoon, you reach Jinghong, a major shipping port on the Mekong River. Jinghong is the capital city of the Xishuangbanna in Yunnan. You will overnight in Jinghong.

Day 18 Jinghong-Oudomxay (275 kilometers)

Your riding adventure in China and Tibet is drawing to a close this day. You will ride the final 175 kilometers south to the border. At Mohan, you say good-bye to your Chinese guide and cross into Laos where your Lao guide is waiting for you. Normally, exiting China and entering Laos is smooth. After a local lunch, you will ride rural and winding roads in Laos towards your final destination of the day, Oudomxay, where you will overnight.

Day 19 Oudomxay-Luang Prabang (200 kilometers)

Fresh air in the morning and spectacular views. You will ride on the brand new road over the mountain to Pak Mong. There are plenty of scenic spots on the way. After Pak Mong, the road widens and you rather quickly cover the remaining 110 kilometers to Luang Prabang, the destination of the day.

This beautiful town, with its gleaming temple roofs, fading French architecture, and stunning mountain backdrop, is your fourth and last UNESCO World Heritage Site. It also has been claimed to be ‘the best preserved city in Southeast Asia’. In the evening, you enjoy a session by the Mekong River. You will overnight in Luang Prabang.

Day 20 Luang Prabang

This day is at your own disposal. In the morning, you will have the option to get up early to view the procession of monks on their daily outing collecting alms, a practice that dated back centuries. It is done early, as the monks cannot eat anything after midday. By giving food to a monk you ‘et bon’ or make merit, which should augur well for your next life.

After breakfast, for those who are interested, you can visit the beautiful Kuang Si Waterfalls, 29 kilometers south of town. It’s possible to swim in the lagoon, so bring your swimming gear. Around noon, back from the waterfalls, you can visit the major temples, including the magnificent Wat Xieng Thong, which nestles at the meeting of the Mekong and the Nam Khan Rivers.

Day 21 Luang Prabang-Pakbeng(280 kilometers)

With newly “charged batteries”, your journey takes you south towards Xayaboury, an easy and nice ride. In Xayaboury, you take the road 4A towards Hongsa. The road is scenic and narrow, it winds its way through valley after valley, over mountains and through village after village. There is hardly any traffic and you will enjoy every minute.

Your final destination for the day is Pakbeng, a colorful village situated at the junction of the Mekong River and the smaller Beng River, hence the town’s name ‘Pak’ meaning ‘mouth’ in Lao. The scenery is stunning, the pace is slow and it’s the perfect way to relax and enjoy the slower pace of Laos. You will stay overnight in Pakbeng.

Day 22 Pakbeng-Nan(220 kilometers)

You will leave Pakbeng and ride the remaining 60 kilometers in Laos to the Thai border at Huai Kon. At the border, you say good-bye to your Laotian guide. Once finalizing the border formalities, you will ride on the left side of the road again and heading towards Bo Kluea.

Without any doubt the road to Bo Kluea and Nan offers some of the most scenic riding in all of Thailand through villages and valleys. The tiny village of Bo Kluea is located in a scenic valley close to the Lao border, remote and picturesque. Leave Bo Kluea, you are back on curvy roads, riding the mountains southwest towards Nan. Most of the day, you are following the mountain range forming the border between Thailand and Laos. You will overnight in Nan.

Day 23 Nan-Chiang Mai (300 kilometers)

After breakfast, you drive from Nan towards western direction. During the last day of your motorcycle adventure, you ride once again hilly roads via Phayao to Chiang Mai. In Phayao, you enjoy lunch by the lake before you arrive back in Chiang Mai in the afternoon, in time to get ready for your farewell dinner.

You will end the day together with your new friends, sharing good riding memories, and looking at some of the pictures from your adventures of the last three weeks. You will overnight in Chiang Mai.

At the junction of the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau and Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau stands a Yunnan’s famous tourist spots, Tiger Leaping Gorge. At 8 AM, meet your tour guide & driver at the entrance to Lijiang Old town(Big Water Wheel) and head to Qiaotou Town. On the way, have a distance view of the First Bend of Yangtze River from afar. After Arriving at Qiaotou Town, hike about 2.5 hours from Qiaotou Elementary School to Naxi Family in Nuoyu Village for lunch and rest.

In the afternoon, continue hiking about 1.5 hours to the 28 Zigzag Turns Trail. You will have a wonderful view of the upper part of Tiger Leaping Gorge from 28 Turns Trail, then hike about 1 hour to Tea and Horse Guesthouse for overnight.

Then, pay a visit to Xieyuda Tea Culture Museum, the first tea culture museum in Anhui Province, to learn more about local tea culture and history. After lunch, drive to Chengkan Ancient Village. It is one of the best-preserved ancient villages in China with beautiful scenery and the splendid Huizhou culture. Up to now, it owns a history of more than 1,800 years. At the end of the day, go back to the hotel for a rest.

After lunch, wander through Xidi Village an ancient village filled with Hui style buildings and then continue your tea tour to Xiangyuan Keemun Black Tea Cultural Industry Exposition Park and Keemun Black Tea Museum to learn about the history of black tea and its making process. Day 9 Wuyishan-Anxi

Today, keep up to discover Mount. Wuyi. It is one of the most spectacularly beautiful areas of southeastern China. Climb the 828 steep stone steps up to the top of the Tianyou Peak. Have a bird’s-eye view of the surrounding hills that are made up of red sandstone with very steep slopes but flat tops, including the 6th bend of the Nine Bend River below. Embark on a boat raft to drift down the Nine-bend River. Then, wander through the Street of Song Dynasty and Wuyi Palace which is an over 1,000 year old temple used to hold ceremony by Chinese emperors and kings. Return to your hotel afterwards.

Your day begins with a journey from Kunming to Xiaowandong Station in Fengqing, traveling swiftly and comfortably via high-speed train.

Upon arrival, you’ll embark on a drive to visit the Xiaowan Hydropower Station, an impressive structure situated on the Lancang-Mekong River. Marvel at the engineering feat of this hydroelectric facility, which supports a 4,200 MW power station and stands as the world’s second-highest arch dam at 292 meters (958 feet). Learn about its construction, completed between 2002 and 2010 by Huaneng Power International, and its pivotal role in hydroelectric power generation.

Day 13 Fengqing Dianhong Black Tea Tour

Your morning begins with a scenic view of the Xiaowan Dam on the Lancang-Mekong River, allowing you to appreciate the grandeur of this hydroelectric marvel set amidst the natural beauty of the river.

Afterward, embark on a drive from Xiaowan Township to Fengqing, where you’ll delve into the rich tea culture of the region.

Your first stop is the Dianhong Tea Museum, offering insights into the history and craftsmanship behind Dianhong Black Tea. Explore the exhibits showcasing the tea-making process and learn about the significance of Dianhong tea in Yunnan’s tea industry.

Next, visit the former Fengqing Tea Factory and Fengqing Tea Research Center, where you’ll gain further knowledge about tea production and research in the region.

Following a delicious lunch, continue your tea-centric journey with a tour of the Dianhong Tea Factory in Fengqing Industrial Zone. Witness firsthand the process of tea production, from drying the leaves to packaging the final product.

Day 14 Fengqing-Ancient Tea Horse Road Hiking-Xilinshan Tea Plantation

In the morning, experience the Dianhong milk black tea in the hotel reception. Yunnan black tea is fermented and roasted. Tea polyphenols undergo an oxidative reaction under the action of oxidised syrup. Drinking Yunnan black tea with milk can aid the reduction of inflammation and protect the gastric mucosa, and it also has a certain effect on the treatment of ulcers.

Drive to Shidongsi Temple (Stone Cave Temple/石洞寺), start the hiking tour along the Ancient Tea Horse Road from Shidongsi to Fengqing Big Snow Mountain, visit the ancient tea in the original forest in Wanshoushan Mountain. After 6 hours hiking, we arrive at Jiuyaojie Mountain Pass and we will have a nice panoramic view of Xilinshan tea area. Arrive at Tangzikou Village(塘子口) and we finish the Ancient Tea Horse Road hiking and camp around the tea garden.

We will have a nice bonfire party with the help of the local tea farmers and have a nice camping night in Anhe Village (安和村) where is the origin of Xilinshan Anceint Tea (锡林山古茶) created by Charlie Lee (Li Rucan/李如灿). The local gorvernment will support us to arrange the tea tour and activities around Anhe Village of Xueshan Town (雪山镇).

Day 15 Xilinshan-Baiyingshan-Lincang

Drive to Bai Ying Shan Mountain whichis a mountain located in Manwan Town of Yunxian County. Visit the tea factory and tea mountain in Baiyingshan. You will have lunch in the local family. Transfer back to Yunxian for overnight.

For the pu-erh tea lovers, Bai Ying Shan is definitely the one which can not be missed. I think the best vintage pu-erh tea I ever had is a 2007 crop Bai Ying Shan. It is really wonderful for the sweetness and rich strong taste it gave.

Bai Ying Shan 白莺山 is one of the branch mountains of Wu Liang Shan 无量山 in Southwest Yunnan Lincang Region, and near Lan Cang River. Though it is still not yet very famous among the many tea mountains of Yunnan, Bai Ying Shan is the origin of the Yunnan old big tea trees as study indicates. Here there is the oldest tea tree more than 3,000 years old, and the biological character of the tea seed of Bai Ying Shan old tree proves here is the birthplace of the Yunnan Big Leaf Tea. The tea species growing here according to the farmers include Ben Shan Cha 本山茶, Hei Tiao Cha 黑条茶, Er Ga Zi Cha 二嘎子茶，Meng Ku Zhong 勐库种, Bai Ya Cha 白芽茶，Liu Ye Cha 柳叶茶, He Zhuang Cha 贺庄茶 and Teng Zi Cha 藤子茶.

The tea trees grow in the Bai Ying Shan Village. Here the trees are not close to each other. But many of them are very big and thousand years old.Bai Ying Shan village is on the peak of the mountain and faces Northeast. This location makes the land entirley exposed to the Sunlight all the day. And at night, the temperature lowers a lot. The moisture from the Lancang River goes up to the mountain and forms cloud anf mist. This kind of weather is very good for the quality of tea.

Transfer to Lincang for overnight.

Day 16 Lincang-Xigui-Mengku

After breakfast, we drive to Xigui, visit Manglu Tea Mountain in Xigui located at the bank of Lancang-Mekong River. Visit Xigui tea factory and have lunch in the local family.Visit Nahan(纳罕) and Manggan(曼岗) tea villages as well.

Xi Gui is located in Lincang county, Lincang city, Yunnan. It is developed along the bank of Mekong River (called as Lincang Jiang in Chinese). The fertile soil brought by the Mekong River is very rich in calcium, and it seems to be contributing body.

Recently the road condition to Xi Gui has been drastically improved. It takes less than 5 hours to reach Xi Gui by car from Lincang city center. Under the circumstances, there are increasing number of high-amateur and tourist from all over China and other countries.

After lunch, we drive to Mengku Township first, then drive to Bingdao village(冰岛), which is Luhu tribal village surrounded by green mountains and is the origin of the tea plantation in China. You will see several huge ancient tea trees over 2000 years old! You will have a chance to see this rare, unique village of the Lahu people. They are known to wear colorful, traditional clothes.

Visit the 5 villages of Bingdao including Dijie (地界）, Bingdao Laozhai (冰岛老寨), Bawai (坝歪), Nanpo (南迫) and Nuowu Village(糯五). Experience the tea making in Dijie village and have lunch there.

Bing Dao Puerh is named after its village of origin, Bing Dao Village of Mengku County, Yunnan Province, China. Bing Dao means “a village with bamboo gate” in Thai. Local villagers, mainly tribal Thai people, have a documented tea growing history dating back to the 15th century. Bing Dao is made from ancient tea trees (gu shu) more than 300 years old and is stone-pressed in the traditional manner. The trees grow on the sunny side of Bang Ma Mountain, more than 2500m above sea level. As a high mountain tea, Bing Dao brews sweet, rich, and is pleasantly refreshing with almost no astringency. Moreover, it has a lasting sweet after-taste (huigan) in the throat, and is sheng jin in character, meaning that it leaves the palate feeling quenched. The fragrance is lightly citrusy and flowery, with a note of wild honey. Our Bing Dao cake is made with old tea leaves and is a great candidate for further aging.

In the afternoon, drive to Xiaohusai(小户赛) Tea village and Dahusai Village.

Day 17 Mengku-Jingmai

Your morning begins with an adventurous drive of approximately five and a half hours to Jingmai Mountain, immersing yourself in the breathtaking landscapes of Yunnan Province.

Upon arrival, you’ll have the opportunity to explore the renowned Jingmai Tea Mountain, a treasure trove of ancient tea gardens that stand as the largest of their kind in the world. Embark on a journey of discovery as you climb the hillside, marveling at the flow of “tea bosses” and admiring the majestic ancient tea gardens that dot the landscape.

Jingmai Mountain, situated deep in the southwest corner of Yunnan Province, boasts a rich biodiversity and is steeped in centuries-old tea cultivation traditions. Bordering Burma, the region’s ancient forests conceal smuggler trade routes that have been in use for generations, adding an air of mystique to the area’s tea culture.

The untainted methods and rituals of tea cultivation and harvesting practiced in Jingmai make it a truly unique destination among the world’s tea-producing regions. In recognition of its cultural and ecological significance, the Chinese government applied for the “Ancient Tea Plantations of Jingmai Mountain” to become a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2013. With its unparalleled beauty and historical significance, Jingmai Mountain stands as a testament to the rich heritage of tea production in Yunnan Province.

As you explore the ancient tea gardens and immerse yourself in the natural splendor of Jingmai Mountain, you’ll gain a deeper appreciation for the artistry and craftsmanship that define tea culture in this enchanting corner of the world.

Day 18 Jingmai-Menghai-Jinghong

After waking up to the crisp mountain air, you’ll have the opportunity to immerse yourself in the local ethnic culture by exploring Jingmai village. Take a leisurely walk through the village, soaking in the sights and sounds of daily life. You may have the chance to visit some local families and learn about the traditional tea processing techniques that have been passed down through generations.

Next, embark on a scenic drive of approximately two and a half hours to Nannuoshan Mountain in Menghai County. Nannuo Mountain is renowned both in China and abroad as the home of the “King of Tea Tree,” an impressive human-cultivated tree that is over 800 years old. Here, you’ll have the opportunity to visit a tea plantation and witness firsthand the cultivation of fine tea tree varieties in the superior natural conditions of Nannuo Mountain.

One of the highlights of Nannuo Mountain tea products is the Nannuo Mountain Peacock Tea, a 400-gram fresh Pu-erh cake renowned for its exceptional quality. With its green, glossy luster and plump, tender leaves and buds, this tea offers a mellow and refreshing flavor with a sharp kougan (mouthfeel) that stimulates salivation. Day 19 Jinghong

In the morning, drive along the Mekong River to Ganlanba, a traditional Dai inhabitancy region, enjoy the views along the river, in Ganlanaba, see a lively daily local market of Dai people first, then drive off main road into countryside to visit village and temple to find out the life and culture facts of Dai people, the dominant ethnic group of the region, if like, enter their house built on stilts and have a chat with them. Further move in the east to Menglun, where the biggest Tropical Botanical Garden of China is situated, which holds more than 3000 species, enjoy nice scenery in the garden and learn about some interesting plants, short walk in rainforest zone, the most natural part of garden is especially recommended, tourists seldom go there, very quiet and original, for simple knowledge about rainforest, the most bio-diversified vegetation type in the world, it’s a good place. Return to Jinghong on the different way, mountainous but scenic, across rainforest, if time permits, drop in village of Jinuo, the last ethnic group classified by Chinese government in 1979, with population of only 20 thousand, they uniquely belong to this region.

This day, we will explore the surroundings of Kunming city including Alu Ancient Cave and Chengzi Ancient Village.

Our guide and driver will pick you up at hotel lobby early in the morning and drive for 2.5 hours to Chengzi ancient village. Explore the ancient village and have lunch nearby. Chengzi Village is a beautiful Yi village in Luxi County, 200 km from Kunming city and 80 km away from Stone Forest. The mysterious village has a history over 300 years featuring unique Yi ethnic group traditional style dwellings. Many visitors are draw to here by its characteristic structures and history.

Continue to visit Alu Cave in the afternoon. Alu Cave is a formation of karsts caverns with an area of 1.6 square kilometers. Located just 2 kilometers from Luxi County, the cave had been discovered in ancient times. Now a three-kilometer tour route has well equipped and opened to public, including Luyuan cave, Jade Pillar Cave and an underground 800-meter long River. After visiting, drive back to your hotel in Kunming around 6pm in the evening.

Day 1 Kunming-Shilin-Yuanyang

At 08:00 am, our guide and driver will pick you up from your hotel in Kunming, then drive to the Stone Forest(85 km, 1.5 h). An extremely rare geological phenomenon dating back to 270 million years ago, the Stone Forest is 80 hectares of karst limestone pillars in fantastic shapes which resemble a forest viewed from a distance. It is also home to the Sani tribe, a branch of the Yi minority renowned for their diligence, embroidery and dancing.

After visiting, drive 6 hours to Yuanyang. Yuanyang is now attracting more and more attention of overseas tourists for its unparalleled terraced paddies and diversified ethnic cultures of the Hani, Yi, Dai and Yao. If time permits, drive to enjoy the sunset view of Longshuba Rice Terraces which is located 5 kilometers away from Xinjie town. Then stay overnight in Yuanyang.

Day 2 Yuanyang-Kunming

Get up very early in the morning, we will drive 30 km to visit Doyishu Village and enjoy the sunrise of Duoyishu Rice Terrace Fields. The terraced fields ring upon ring and go along the hillside up to the sky. You will see the scenery of the terraced fields from the top of the mountains to the bottom. Under the sunshine, Rice Terrace is spectacular.

And then, you will visit Qingkou Village and rice terraces where Hani people inhabit for generations. Visit Bada Hani Rice Terrace, Shengcun Market as well. After lunch, we will depart from Yuanyang and back to Kunming (6-7 hours driving). On the way, have a stop at Tonghai to have a tour of Xinmeng Village which is the only Mongolian village in Yunnan, with a history over 750 years. Upon arrival Kunming, check in your hotel.(OWN BOOKING). Service ends.
