Yan Waluo – Representative Inheritor of Bulang Folk Song Project in Menghai County, Xishuangbanna

Yan Waluo was born in Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous County in 1959. He is the representative inheritor of the Bulang Folk Song Project. 

Life Experience

Yanwaluo(岩瓦洛) liked the folk songs of the Bulang Ethnic since he was a child. At the age of 16, he officially learnt from the old artist of Yan San(岩三) in the village. In just two and a half years, he fully grasped the traditional singing method of the folk songs of the Bulang Ethnic Minority. 

He has a wealth of vocals and a strong improvisation ability, and is well received by the masses. Even the Bulang Ethnic in South Myanmar have invited him to sing. He is a well-known folk singer among the local and overseas Bulang people.

Achievements

In 2000 and 2004, he was invited to participate in the “Six-State Art Festival” held in Xishuangbanna Prefecture; in 2002, he won the second prize in the “The Third National Minority Folk Art Exhibition” in Xishuangbanna Prefecture; in 2002, the Pacific Audio and Video Company included two love songs sang by his disciple Yu Hankan and him; in August 2003, CCTV interviewed him.
