Yang Zhengfan is a classical painting craftsman from Jianshui County, Honghe Prefecture, Yunnan Province. Below is a detailed introduction about him:

Personal Background

Yang Zhengfan was born in 1922 in Jianshui County, Honghe Prefecture. He grew up in a family where he was exposed to the rich traditions of painting and sculpture. From a young age, he began learning these crafts from his father. In 1934, he and his father were invited by the abbot of Qiongzhu Temple to undertake a three-year restoration and painting project. Through his father's meticulous guidance and his own diligence, he mastered the techniques of classical painting and sculpture. Later, he apprenticed with Zhang Tianbao from the Yunnan Provincial Opera Troupe to learn stage scenery and prop制作. In 1953, he joined the Shiping County Opera Troupe as a percussionist and scenic artist. However, in 1958, he was labeled a "current counter-revolutionary" and did not regain his reputation until 1981. During this difficult period, his family was torn apart, and he faced numerous challenges. In 1983, he rebuilt his family, and his talents were once again recognized by local leaders. He was entrusted with the restoration and painting of Shiping Xiu Mountain Temple and the Confucius Temple, among other projects. His work on Xiu Mountain Temple was highly praised, with inscriptions noting, "In 1984, the government allocated funds to restore Xiu Mountain and specially invited artist Yang Zhengfan to paint the mountain gate and the Mahavira Hall, etc. The craftsmanship is so exquisite that it is rarely seen in modern Yunnan."

Material and Techniques: Yang Zhengfan excels in various classical painting techniques, including "堆金" (gold stacking) and "沥粉" (powder application), which involve creating three-dimensional patterns using paper pulp and mud. His works often feature intricate designs such as figures, flowers, birds, and landscapes.
Artistic Style: His paintings are known for their vibrant colors, delicate brushwork, and a blend of traditional and innovative elements. His ability to integrate artistic beauty with practical functionality has made his works both visually stunning and culturally significant.
