Manghuai Yi and Blang Ethnic Township (忙怀彝族布朗族乡) is a township under the jurisdiction of Yun County (云县), Lincang City (临沧市), Yunnan Province (云南省). It is located in the northeastern part of Yun County, bordering Anle Township (安乐乡) and Lianjie Township (联街乡) of Jingdong County (景东县) across the Lancang River (澜沧江) to the east, Houfu Township (后符乡) and Yongbao Town (涌宝镇) to the south, Xiaojie Township (晓街乡) and Maolan Town (茂兰镇) to the west, and Manwan Town (漫湾镇) to the north. The township covers a total administrative area of 248.96 square kilometers.

Before 1949, it belonged to the Eastern and Northern Districts. In November 1987, it was renamed Manghuai Yi and Blang Ethnic Township. As of the end of 2019, the household population was 20,271. By June 2020, the township governed 11 administrative villages. The township government is seated in Manghuai Village (忙怀村).

By the end of 2019, Manghuai Yi and Blang Ethnic Township had 8 industrial enterprises (including one above-designated size) and 90 general stores or supermarkets with an operating area of more than 50 square meters.

Historical Evolution

  • Before 1949: Belonged to the Eastern and Northern Districts.
  • After 1949: Eastern District became the Third District, Northern District became the Second District.
  • 1957: Districts were abolished and merged into townships.
  • January 1973: Established as Manghuai Commune (忙怀公社).
  • March 1984: Commune changed into a district.
  • November 1987: Renamed Manghuai Yi and Blang Ethnic Township (忙怀彝族布朗族乡).

Manghuai Yi and Blang Ethnic Township is located in the northeastern part of Yun County (云县), bordering Jingdong County (景东县) across the Lancang River (澜沧江) to the east, Houfu Township (后符乡) and Yongbao Town (涌宝镇) to the south, Xiaojie Township (晓街乡) and Maolan Town (茂兰镇) to the west, and Manwan Town (漫湾镇) to the north. It covers 248.96 square kilometers.

Topography and Landforms

The township is characterized by high mountains and deep valleys with rugged terrain. It extends 45 km from east to west and 40 km from north to south.

  • Lowest point: Riverside at Dapingzhang (大平掌江边), 795 m.

Hydrology

The main rivers in the township include Xiaoshui River (小水河), Bingmao River (丙茂河), Xinjie River (新街河), and Kongkong River (控控河).

  • Bingmao River originates in Dengzhan Mountain (灯盏山头) in Houfu Township (后符乡), flows about 8 km through the township, and joins the Lancang River (澜沧江).
  • Xinjie River originates in Yangzuoweifu (杨柞围符), with a length of 15 km.

In 2011, the cultivated land area in the township was 46,800 mu.

By the end of 2011, the total population of Manghuai Yi and Blang Ethnic Township was 19,300.

Ethnic composition: Yi (彝族) is the majority with 11,700 people (60%).
