Manmai Sangkang Scenic Area in Jinghong City, XishuangBanna

The Manmai Sangkang Scenic Area (曼迈桑康风景区), located at the 41-kilometer mark of the Jinglun Highway (景仑公路) in Jinghong City (景洪市), Xishuangbanna (西双版纳), about 40 kilometers from downtown, is a national 3A-level tourist attraction. The name “Manmai Sangkang” means “Festival Village” in the Dai language, and it is the only themed scenic area in Xishuangbanna that showcases Dai ethnic customs through water-based performances. The area is formed by two major water bodies—Golden Lake (金湖) and Silver Lake (银湖).

The scenic area centers on Dai Water Splashing Festival culture, featuring a natural lake stage where 500 local performers present traditional activities such as dragon boat races, sky lantern releases, and the Dai King’s Palanquin experience. Visitors can also enjoy bamboo rafting, lake viewing from suspension bridges, and other natural attractions. Traditional Dai cuisine, including grilled fish and hao nuo suo (毫诺索, glutinous rice cakes), is available. Nearby attractions include the Dai Ethnic Garden (傣族园) and Mengyuan Wonderland (勐远仙境).

Cultural and Festival Highlights

Manmai Sangkang Scenic Area in Jinghong City, XishuangBanna

All villagers of Manmai Sangkang warmly welcome visitors with a rich showcase of Dai festival culture: dragon boat races, dragon boat blessings, carrying the Dai King’s Palanquin, bamboo rafting, water-based Dai folk performances, and traditional courtship games such as “throwing love bags.”

Following the success of the “Daily Water Splashing Festival” at the Dai Ethnic Garden, Xishuangbanna Dai Ethnic Garden Co., Ltd. collaborated to launch the new Manmai Sangkang Scenic Area under the theme “Water Splashing Festival · Impressions.” Building on traditional elements, the scenic area emphasizes spectacular dragon boat races, sky lantern releases, and immersive cultural experiences.

Set against a backdrop of preserved Dai historical spaces, blue skies, lush mountains, and pristine waters, the performances vividly recreate the customs of the Water Splashing Festival, making Manmai Sangkang the only scenic spot in Xishuangbanna where Dai folk culture is performed on water. The combination of vibrant cultural displays and beautiful natural scenery creates a captivating ethnic landscape.
