Puer Tea Expert – DENG SHIHAI

Deng Shihai邓时海, born on November 15, 1941, is a prominent scholar and practitioner known for his contributions to the traditional Yang family Taijiquan (Tai Chi) and Pu’er tea studies. He studied under Wang Zihe, the fifth-generation successor of the Yang family, and has been instrumental in promoting the traditional Yang family Taijiquan. Deng has also made significant contributions to the research and documentation of Taijiquan’s history through his comprehensive works, including “The Examination of Taijiquan” and “Research on the Roots of Taijiquan,” which detail various historical aspects of Taijiquan, including its origins, key figures, and instructional methods.

Deng Shihai began his Taijiquan training under Wang Zihe during his time at Taiwan Normal University. In 1995, Deng published his influential book “Pu’er Tea,” which has become a seminal work in the study and appreciation of Pu’er tea. This book played a crucial role in popularizing Pu’er tea in Taiwan and mainland China and sparked a growing interest in Pu’er tea across China, Korea, and Thailand. The book’s success led to subsequent editions and further publications, solidifying Deng’s reputation as a leading expert in Pu’er tea.
